Chapter 151

Chapter 151

Elena’s POV:

His brows furrowed, a shadow of doubt crossing his face. You know, Elena, If you shoot meyou won’t be able to get back, right? He stated, despite the gun I held aimed at him. This boat runs on an advanced automatic system, and it will keep going unless I command it to stop… or it simply runs out of fuel, somewhere in the middle of the ocean. With no signal, no phone, no way to call for help.He began, his lips quirking up into a smirk. And with each word he uttered, each chilling detail, my heart sank further.

Then, with an almost imperceptible shift, he began walking forward, a slow, confident stride that ate up the limited space between us. I instinctively backed away from the utility table, my eyes darting around for an escape route, my feet carrying me towards the very edge of

the boat’s stern. Was he telling the truth? Could this boat be controlled solely by his voice?

Technically speaking, what he said was probable. There were many highend vehicles, luxury yachts, even cars now, that worked on the voice command of their owner, programmed to respond only to a specific voice print, refusing to listen to anyone else. It was a terrifying thought. But thenif I didn’t stop him, if I didn’t act, thenhe’d kill me. Yes, I knew how to use a gun. But could I actually use it against a person? Could I pull the trigger?

What if I ended up killing him? The thought sent a jolt of ice through my veins. He continued to advance, his eyes fixed on me, a taunting challenge in their depths. Elenathere’s no getting away from this. How about you stop resisting and just give me the gun? I was just trying to scare you—His voice suddenly broke off, midsentence, his gaze flicking past me, over my shoulder, towards the horizon. I frowned,

confused by his silence.

Then, my brows rose sharply, and my head shot to the side, following his line of sight.

And then I heard it. The faint, yet rapidly growing, sound of another engine. It hadn’t registered before, because of the yacht’s own loud hum and the roar of the fast ocean wind whipping past my ears. But now that it had gotten close, now that my attention was fixed on it, I could

clearly see it. A fast approaching speed boat.

Fuck that bastard,” Dmitri growled, his face contorting with a fresh wave of fury, clearly recognizing the approaching vessel. My heart

lurched, a sickening drop, as he took another furious step forward, abandoning all pretense of negotiation, his attention momentarily diverted. No!I screamed. Before I could think, my finger squeezed the trigger.

A loud bang resounded, deafening in the open air, and I gasped, the kickback of the gun jolting my shoulder. The bullet, however, didn’t strike Dmitri. It ricocheted off the polished metal railing of the yacht, striking the pristine white hull of the boat with a sharp thwack instead

of finding its intended target:

Fear pulsed through my veins as Dmitri lunged forward. He ripped the gun from my grasp with a terrifying force, twisting my arm, and then grabbed my elbow, shoving me violently backward. I stumbled, my feet losing purchase on the slippery deck, my heart plummeting.

I was at the absolute end of the boat, the stern railing pressing against the small of my back. One more step, one more push, and I’d fall right into the ocean below. Stay put, Elena, or I WILL throw you down myself,” he growled, his face inches from mine, his eyes blazing with a dangerous, unstable fire.

NoDmitri.I gasped, my voice thin and desperate, my free hand instinctively grabbing onto his arm, my fingers digging into the fabric of his shirt, seeking purchase, a way to anchor myself.

But his attention had already been completely grabbed, stolen by the man now standing tall on the deck of the rapidly approaching speedboat, his dark blazer fluttering in the wind, his silhouette unmistakable even from a distance. I didn’t feel any relief at this point seeing

Nikolai. Only a fresh wave of dread. My own carelessness had brought him here, put him in danger.

I had dropped the knife during Dmitri’s brutal push backward, the small weapon clattering uselessly somewhere behind me. I had no way to fight Dmitri, and he, now armed with the gun, was pointing it menacingly at Nikolai.

A gasp escaped me as Dmitri shot out, a sudden, explosive bang echoing across the water. He actually shot at his brother. And I watched with

wide eyes, a horrified disbelief seizing me, as Nikolai, with an almost supernatural calm, only sidestepped, his body shifting just enough to avoid the lethal projectile. He was driving the boat with one hand, steering it with incredible precision, even as he pulled out his own gun with the other and aimed it back at Dmitri.

Dmitri, stopStop. Please!I cried out, my voice raw, breaking, tears stinging my eyes. This was insane! If the bullet accidentally hit himwhat had I done?My entire body trembled, wracked with fear and a profound, agonizing regret.

At this precise instant, I was starting to regret a lot. Everything. I shouldn’t have butted in. I should have stayed put, remained hidden, protected myself and my baby. I should have stayed away from this entire, dangerous situation, I had a precious life to protect inside me and I had been so utterly careless, so reckless.

How could I have done such a thing? How could I have allowed my anger, my need for justice, to overshadow the importance of my child’s safety?

Gunshots ricocheted around me, each report deafening, the air thick with the smell of gunpowder. I squeezed my eyes shut, my head throbbing. I tried to push Dmitri’s arm away, to dislodge the gun from his grip, to divert his aim. But as soon as I did, he pushed me down further, leveraging his weight against me. My hair had fallen out of its bun, strands escaping and tangling around my face, and at this point, I was dipping down so low that the ends of my hair were wet from the splashing waves.
