Even after finishing his explanation, Alistair's erratic heartbeat still wouldn't calm down.
Even though the dead couldn't testify and he was free to make things up, if Beasley didn't believe him and insisted on investigating further, digging deeper...
Just thinking about it made Alistair break out in a cold sweat.
As Beasley's lawyer, how could he not be aware of his ruthless methods?
It was just that Beasley had previously shown zero interest in anything related to Willow. Even if he was asking about this matter under pressure from the Chairman's wife, he was likely just going through the motions and didn't really care.
Hadn't it always been like that over the past three years?
But why was it different now?
Looking at Beasley's current reaction, how did this look like he was just going through the motions?
He clearly wanted his life!
Beasley stared at him for a long time, then picked up the black eight-ball in front of him and slowly said, "If I find out that you've said even a single word of a lie today..."
Although the man's tone was low and slow, it was chilling to the bone. "...Then the sins Zoe didn't finish paying for while she was alive, you will pay for on her behalf."
A chill shot through Alistair's veins, making his bones tremble and his scalp go numb.
"Do you have anything else to add?" Beasley put down the black ball and stared at him again.
Alistair tightened his grip on his cue again. Then, he put it down and said solemnly, "Mr. Windsor, may I officially pursue Willow?"
Beasley narrowed his eyes.
Alistair's heart leaped into his throat.
But he couldn't back down.
One step back, and it would be an endless abyss.
"Do whatever you want."
It felt like a long century had passed before Alistair finally heard the man coldly force out those words.
Alistair felt like he had been plunged into an ice cave.
On the surface, the answer made it seem like he didn't mind him pursuing Willow.
