There were times after her rebirth when Willow felt unbearably alone. Her pain had no one to confide in, her regrets were hers to bear. She could only process them by herself, making peace with her own heart, over and over again in a never-ending cycle.
Even in sessions with her therapist, Willow could never lay everything bare. Some secrets, she was convinced, would stay locked inside her for the rest of her life—secrets she’d carry with her to the grave.
Now, to discover that someone else in the world understood, that she wasn’t truly alone—how could she not be moved to tears?
“Are our conversations being monitored?” Waller asked suddenly, snapping Willow out of her thoughts.
She’d already installed anti-surveillance software on her phone, but some things were still safer discussed face-to-face.
“When do you have time to meet?” she asked.
Waller explained that starting tomorrow, he’d be in special training for several days straight, stuck on base.
After a moment’s thought, he said, “Could we meet tonight? I’ll be busy with training for the next few days.”
He couldn’t wait until the next weekend. Patience was out of the question.
Willow checked the clock. It was half past nine—not too late.
“Where should we meet?” she asked directly.
Her place was out of the question. Beasley Windsor had set up surveillance cameras at his own front door; if he saw Waller showing up at her place this late, his suspicions would be immediately aroused.
“Where do you think is best?” Waller asked, deferring to her judgment.
A spot came to Willow’s mind. “I’ll send you the address. I’ll wait for you there.”
“Alright.”
Once the call ended, Willow quickly opened WhatsApp and sent Waller the location.
