Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 168

Willow was at a loss for words with Lionel as well. She and Juliette had been close since childhood, but their friendship was pure and untainted—how could anyone twist it into something else?

Was Lionel listening to rumors, or did he just have a terribly overactive imagination?

If it was the former, it proved he was easily swayed by gossip—hardly the type of man worth trusting.

If it was the latter...

A small, involuntary smile tugged at Willow's lips.

Juliette, still bristling from her confrontation with Lionel, caught the trace of a smile. Her curiosity was instantly piqued. "Willa, what are you grinning about?"

Willow quickly smoothed her expression. "Oh, nothing. It's just—Mr. Scott is such a character. With him around, I doubt you ever get bored, do you?"

Juliette considered this. It was true—there was never a dull moment with Lionel. He couldn't sit still for five minutes, never made a fuss about social status, and, to be fair, was pretty easygoing. He didn't have any of the usual spoiled-rich-boy airs or temper. On the flip side, though, he was also a bit of an overgrown puppy—sweet but clueless.

And when it came to relationships, he acted like a child: desperate to get what he couldn't have, only to lose interest the moment it was within reach. Nothing ever seemed to hold his attention for long.

"Let's not talk about him anymore. Let's just eat," Juliette said, picking up her fork and determinedly pushing Lionel out of her mind.

Willow had spent over an hour preparing this meal—it would be a shame to let it go to waste.

Willow nodded, and the two of them tucked in, letting the conversation drift to other topics.

Willow, for her part, didn't think she was in any position to give relationship advice. Her own love life was a mess.

After lunch, they tidied up the kitchen. By the time they finished, it was already past one.

"Want to go see a movie this afternoon?" Juliette suggested.

Willow realized she hadn't been to the movies in ages, and she'd set aside the day to spend with her friend anyway. She nodded. "Sounds great."

They ended up choosing a horror film.

Neither of them was in the mood for a romance—not with their luck in love lately.
