Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 16

"An apology?"

Willow let out a laugh, but there was no warmth in it; it was as cold and biting as a winter lake, as if to say, "And why should I?"

Beasley caught that frosty, mocking look in her eyes and frowned. "Don't you think you should?"

She was never going to apologize—Willow couldn't even be bothered to argue. She simply looked away, pretending she hadn't heard a word.

York, standing off to the side, was completely stunned.

Is this some bizarre new way to get Beasley's attention? he wondered. Otherwise, how could she dare talk to him like that? It was practically turning the whole world upside down!

Then, in a flash, York remembered the scene he'd witnessed just outside Silverton the previous afternoon—the woman walking shoulder-to-shoulder with a man, his coat draped over her shoulders, the two of them laughing as they walked side by side. He'd even opened the car door for her like a perfect gentleman, shielding her head with his hand as she got in.

They looked awfully close.

Could it be… Willow was actually cheating?

Good Lord.

York's jaw dropped as he glanced from Willow to Beasley, wide-eyed, looking as if he'd just overheard the juiciest piece of gossip imaginable.

At that moment, the elevator arrived at Willow's floor. As soon as the doors slid open, she took the hands of the two little ones and walked out without sparing them a single backward glance.

The elevator doors closed again, sealing the two men inside as it continued its ascent.

Honestly, York had found Willow's attitude just now hard to swallow—on his own account, but especially for his friend's sake.

"Beasley, your bargain-bin Cinderella is acting real strange," York said, rubbing his nose and testing the waters. "Did she even come home last night?"

Beasley had almost told York that he and Willow had finalized their divorce that very morning, but he held back at the last second, masking his emotions.

He simply replied, "She's always been like this. Hell of an actress."

He pointedly didn't answer York's question about last night.

York nodded, clearly struck by the truth of it. "Yeah, her acting's wasted on real life—she should be up on the big screen."
