Before Charlene could finish speaking, Daniel stepped forward and pulled her into his arms.
Feeling Charlene tremble in his embrace, Daniel spoke softly, "Ashcroft Group's genetic serum is about to hit the market, and plenty of people will be after it. If I stay here, you'll be in danger."
Charlene shook her head. "I'm not afraid!"
Daniel patted her back. "But I am… I'm afraid of losing you."
Those few words were the sweetest yet most devastating love words to Charlene. She lifted her head, and her eyes were glistening with tears.
Daniel leaned in close to her ear. "Let's try a new position tonight."
Charlene didn't respond with words. Instead, she answered him in the most passionate way possible. That night, she was wilder than ever, as if she wouldn't stop until she had completely drained Daniel.
Daniel couldn't retreat now, not when things had already reached this point.
…
The next morning, Charlene was already gone when Daniel woke up.
Daniel went to the guest room and found Alden still unconscious, but his wounds had mostly healed. Judging by his condition, Daniel figured he wouldn't stay unconscious for much longer.
As expected, by the time Daniel finished making breakfast, Alden woke up.
"Where… Where am I?" Alden mumbled.
"How are you feeling?" Daniel asked with a smile.
Alden stared at him in shock. "Mr. Ashcroft!"
Daniel patted his shoulder. "I've checked your injuries, and you're recovering well. Get some rest, and don't worry too much."
After reassuring Alden, Daniel set off for the Verdant estate.
The estate had once belonged to the Ashcroft family, but Jennifer had sold it off for money.
It was in a remote area, about twenty minutes from Qranross's city center. But that remoteness had its perks—the scenery was breathtaking.
This estate had once been the Ashcroft's family's retreat, a place filled with Daniel's cherished childhood memories. Unfortunately, everything had changed.
As soon as Conor found out that Daniel wanted to buy the estate back, he immediately got in touch with the seller and arranged a meeting at noon.
Daniel drove straight to the Verdant Estate. He wanted to see what changes the estate had undergone over the years.
As for his own villa, the one Jennifer was currently living in, he had no intention of ever setting foot there again. If he went back, he was afraid he might not be able to stop himself from killing Jennifer. That would take all the fun out of it.
