Betrayed, But Not Defeated novel Chapter 190

Ernest narrowed his eyes. A dangerous glint flashed in them as he locked his gaze onto Daniel.

Just as the tension escalated, Hector walked in from outside and approached with a smile. "Hi there, Daniel!"

Ernest turned his head at the sound of the voice. Seeing Hector, he frowned deeply but said nothing. He simply took a step back to make space.

Hector ignored the gazes around him and stopped in front of Daniel. "I didn't expect you to come today. We must have a proper drink!"

Daniel studied Hector's expression before glancing at Ernest. The sight of the latter's stormy face piqued his interest.

It was interesting to see that there was obvious discord within the Crane family.

As the main character of tonight's banquet, Zidane found himself completely sidelined. His frustration grew, but when his eyes landed on Jennifer, a smirk crept onto his lips.

"Come with me, Jennifer. Let's go around giving toasts." Zidane approached her.

Jennifer instinctively glanced at Daniel, and her expression shifted slightly.

The banquet was supposedly a class reunion, but in reality, it was a gathering of Qranross' elite families. It was an event meant to pave the way for the Wilcox family's influence in the city.

Zidane's words were a slap in Daniel's face now that the former invited Jennifer to toast with him. The reason was simple—Jennifer was Daniel's wife.

When Daniel had been an outcast, few in Qranross cared about him. But things were different now. The city's business community had taken notice of him ever since the grand opening of Ashcroft Group.

"Alright," Jennifer said through gritted teeth. She was determined to provoke Daniel; perhaps that was the only way to bring back the man she once knew.

Charlene understood Jennifer's intention and reached out to grab the latter's arm. "Jennifer, you…"

Daniel turned to him and decided. "Some things leave no room for compromise once they're set in motion." This was not just a message to Hector and was also directed at Jennifer.

By now, Jennifer had reached Daniel holding a glass of wine. "Daniel, shall we drink?"

Daniel got up with a smile. But instead of taking the glass, he walked over to Zidane and patted his shoulder lightly. "Jennifer, if you're going to play around, at least find someone with more stamina. This weakling isn't even worth it."

"Daniel!" Zidane had planned to humiliate Daniel but found himself being the target instead. His rage was palpable.

Many guests overheard the remark and exchanged amused glances. This was turning out to be quite the spectacle.

To make matters worse, Zidane's body suddenly began to sway uncontrollably as Daniel patted his shoulder, as though proving the latter's words true!
