"Damn it! I just knew you were hiding the money."
Declan shoved Bridget aside. His face lit up when he spotted the cash under the cushion. "Next time you pull something like this, I'll break your legs," he added.
Then, he turned to Daniel. "Brat, this isn't over. You'd better have enough cash, and maybe I'll let this slide."
At that moment, Daniel couldn't take it anymore and kicked Declan out.
Declan instantly sobered up and clutched his abdomen. "Fine. Fine. You two really know how to push buttons. But mark my words, this isn't over." With that, he turned and bolted out the door.
Daniel didn't bother chasing him. Instead, he sighed and helped Bridget, who had fallen, to her feet.
"Mr. Ashcroft, I'm so sorry you had to see this."
A flash of despair crossed her eyes. She didn't seem to care about her wounds and started tidying up the living room.
"Ms. Field, what happened?" He leaned against the doorframe.
Bridget finally broke down and buried her face in her hands as she sobbed.
Daniel let out a quiet sigh and waited patiently before walking over to hand her a tissue.
She stopped crying.
"Thank you, Mr. Ashcroft. I didn't expect you to recover." She turned to him and forced a smile.
"It's nothing. Since you're addressing me as 'Mr. Ashcroft,' it shows you've been working at the Ashcroft Group for a long time. Care to tell me what's going on?" He looked at her and asked.
Bridget sighed deeply. "Declan's my husband. I've been trying to divorce him, but he refuses. He threatened to kill my family if I left him… and I believe he'd do it.
"I knew you had recovered when I saw you at the company that day, so I proposed to Ms. Walsh that you should return to the company. We ended up having a huge argument over it." Bridget sighed.
"I see." He nodded. "Ms. Field, you probably already know why I'm here. Are you willing to come back to work?"
"Of course!" Bridget answered without hesitation. "I was sponsored by your family back then. As long as you don't despise me, I won't leave."
Daniel extended his hand. "Welcome back, Ms. Field. I'll be relying on you to manage the company."
Bridget shook his hand, though she looked surprised. "What about Ms. Walsh?"
"Her? I've already dismissed her. She won't be showing up at the company again," he said with a smile.
Since Jennifer had handed the company back to him, Daniel didn't hesitate to dismiss her. What he hadn't expected, though, was her complete lack of reaction. That was highly unusual.
