In The Midst of Chaos, There’s Us 

Kelly’s POV 

Wearing a simple dress, I went out of Pierce’s car. Again, I watched him as he opened the door behind the driver seat and Snow went out. 

I felt a hollow in my heart as I watched them. Pierce fixes Snow’s dress while they’re smiling at each other. Last night, because of Klay’s unexpected call, I was unable to tell Pierce about Snow. I was so occupied by the fear of the possibilities that it completely slipped off my mind. 

“Kelly…” Pierce’s gentle voice calling me brought me back to reality. 

He walked towards me and stared at my face. “Don’t worry about anything. He can’t take you away again.” 

This morning, Pierce accompanied me to the police station to report about Klay’s sudden call. We brought Snow with us because I couldn’t calm my mind. 

“He can never touch you again,” Pierce whispered as he leaned closer to me and planted a soft kiss on my temple. 

His gesture made my heart race again. I looked up at him again and stared into his brown and loving eyes. That’s when the door swung open and I saw how many people were inside. We immediately caught their attention and I’m certain that they recognized me. 

I swallowed hard when Pierce carried Snow and put his other arm around my waist. I couldn’t look at the people watching us. 

I don’t wanna make a scene like this, but I can’t leave Snow. I thought of not attending this party, but I know Phoebe would be disappointed. So, I chose to be a headline on the news tomorrow instead of leaving Phoebe disappointed or leaving Snow in my condo even if Ana is there. 

“Kelly!” Pierce’s sister greeted us. She looked very happy wearing a beautiful gown and a crown. 

“Happy birthday, Phoebe.” I hugged her and kissed her cheek before I handed my gift. 

She looked at me happily before she accepted the gift and looked at Snow in Pierce’s arm. “Hello, lovely.” 

Snow giggled as her eyes twinkled, looking at Phoebe’s crown. “You look like a princess, Aunt.” 

Phoebe chuckled and took her crown off of her head. She gently put it on Snow’s head and Snow was so happy. 

“You are our real princess.” Phoebe took Snow from Pierce. 

“Phoebe, it’s your party. You should enjoy your night.” 

Phoebe smirked at me. “What are you talking about? I’m enjoying my night. You two should enjoy. This is your time to relax. Stop thinking about work and enjoy the night. I’ll be with Snow. She’s safe with me.” 

+ bit my bottom lip when Phoebe turned her back and walked towards the crowd carrying Snow. I felt Pierce’s arm on the small of my back which gained my attention. I looked up at him and he gave me a sweet smile. 

“Let’s get something to eat?” 

I nodded at him while we’re walking towards the buffet table. The hall was huge but I immediately spotted Mr. and Mrs. Anderson looked at us. Mr. Anderson was holding a glass of liquor. Beside him was his wife, looking at me with a smile on her face and I smiled back. They’re sitting on a round table with some people.

Pierce handed me a plate with food. He got himself food before he held my waist and we walked towards his parents‘ table. 

“Good evening, sir and madam,” I greeted Pierce’s parents. Mr. Anderson smiled a little and nodded at me. The people sitting with them are silent and shocked. 

Mrs. Anderson pulled herself up and walked towards me. She kissed my cheek and held my waist.” Everyone, I bet you all know Kelly Monroe.” 

“Who won’t recognize a beautiful and hardworking lady, Mrs. Anderson?” 

I smiled and nodded at the gentleman. “Thank you, sir.” 

Pierce cleared his throat. “We’re just going to eat on the next table.” 

“Sure, sure. Kelly, enjoy the party.” 

I smiled again before I followed Pierce to the next table. Pierce pulled a chair for me and I sat there. 

While we’re eating, Snow and Phoebe, singing and dancing in front of everyone caught my attention. A smile crept on my lips as I enjoyed watching them. 

“She’s enjoying the party with her aunt,” I said. 

Pierce looked at me and nodded while smiling. “Party girls.” 

We continued eating. Pierce was so attentive to me while we’re eating. After that, the server gave us drinks while Pierce went to the buffet to get some desert. I was still smiling while watching my daughter and Phoebe when someone stood beside me. 

“Caleb!” I was shocked to see him here. 

He smiled and glanced at the vacant seat beside me where Pierce was sitting a while ago. “Can I…join you?” 

That’s Pierce’s place. I was about to open my mouth when Pierce came back and grabbed the chair beside me. He looked at Caleb with blank eyes. “Good evening, Mr. Walter. You said you couldn’t come because you have a business trip.” 

They talked? 

Caleb glanced at me and fixed his eyeglasses before he looked at Pierce.again. “I changed my mind.” Pierce nodded and put the plate of desserts on the table. “I only got desserts for two people only.” 

“It’s okay. I’m here to keep Kelly company.” 

“I’m her company, actually.” 

I bit my bottom lip and pointed at the table in front of me. “You…can sit there, Caleb.” 

Caleb sat on the chair in front of me. I smiled at him. 

The atmosphere is very awkward. I started eating in silence. I couldn’t even properly swallow the dessert because Caleb’s presence reminds me of what he said to me about courting. 

After eating the dessert, I excused myself for a while. I went to the comfort room and sighed after I stared at my own reflection in the mirror. I didn’t feel like going back so I just went to the pool area. I can hear the crowd inside the house but it seems peaceful here. 

Actually, Caleb’s presence is making me uncomfortable. After a failed relationship with Pierce and Klay, I couldn’t bring myself to trust another suitor again. I was thinking of rejecting him but what happened recently made me forget about that.

I hugged myself when I felt the cold air but a warm coat eased the coldness of the night. My lips parted 

as I saw Pierce stood beside me. 

He pushed his hands inside the pocket of his pants and looked at me. “Why are you here?” 

I smiled at him. “I feel uncomfortable around Caleb.” 

He clenched his jaws and stared at the pool water. “I’m…jealous of him. I’m sorry for acting like a jerk.” 

He’s always honest with his feelings. He never gave me mixed signals and that’s, I think, was why I fell for him before and falling for him now again. 

“Pierce…” 

He looked me in the eyes again. “Hmm? 

I swallowed hard and stared at his brown eyes. He told me he loves me and I love him too. I can give myself another chance, right? I can be happy even if everything is still a mess, right? 

I took a step closer to him as I glanced at his lips. I almost kissed that lips the other night and I couldn’t help the urge to him tonight. My heart was beating so fast and my mind could only think about his reddish lips. 

After gathering all my courage, I grabbed the collar of his long sleeves and tilted my feet, meeting his lips halfway as I pulled him down to me. 

felt his shock but I didn’t mind. His eyes were widened but I slowly closed my eyes and started moving my lips. He stood there like a rock but after a few seconds, I felt him kissing me back…with much intensity …with more passion.
