Ryn's pov
I walked in on Walker, the owner of the supermarket talking roughly to a teenage black boy. The teenager looked really familiar and when I got closer I recognized him.
"Give it to me boy!" Walker yells, gripping the boy's jeans and pulls him roughly towards him.
The boy shakes his head. "It wasn't me man, let me go!"
From the way his voice shook, I knew that he was terrified and if I don't intervene now things could get worse. I walked up to the two and pushed myself between them.
As soon as Walker notices it was me he backs away dropping the terrified teenager. "Officer Waters you came just in time." Walker says and sends a scowl towards the boy.
"What is going on here?" I questioned and pulled the boy away.
I looked at the boy, my eyes turning to slits as I studied him. "What have you gotten yourself into again Levi?" I asked him.
He visibly gulps and shakes in my hold. "I swear it wasn't me officer Ryn, I don't know what he is talking about." He stutters. I let him go and face Walker.
"You know this kid officer?" Walker asked roughly.
Of Course I knew Levi, he was a sweet kid who always seemed to get mixed up with the wrong crowd. Going from foster home to foster home it had become a routine of his to get into trouble.
I nod at Walker. "Of course I do. Now what seems to be the problem here?" I asked again.
Walker sends a glare to Levi before speaking. "He stole something that belongs to me."
My brows arched in surprise. I knew Levi always got into trouble but he was never the cause of it. It seemed strange to think that he could steal something.
Like I said the boy was a sweet kid. If he would stop pretending to be a tough shit to try and impress his friends then he wouldn't be in so much trouble all the time.
"What did he steal may I ask?" I questioned and looked around. There were five teenage boys around Levi's age lined up in a corner staring at the scene before them. All were laughing and seemed to be having a fit at what was going on.
"Five beer cans." Walker hisses staring at Levi in accusation. I turned to Levi and studied him properly.
He was dressed in black washed skinny jeans and a white polo shirt but from what I could tell he didn't have a bag or something to hold beers if he were to steal it.
I sighed. "Levi did you steal the beer cans? I should warn you to not to lie to me. I'm very pissy today."
Levi gulps and shakes his head furiously. "No I swear officer Ryn. I don't even drink beer."
As soon as those words left his mouth the five boys in the corner bust into fits of laughter. Levi shifts his eyes to them and puts his head down in shame.
I looked at the five boys who were laughing and squint to have a better look. They all looked like the rebellious type, the type somehow Levi gets attracted to.
"Do you know them Levi?" I asked and jerk my head in their direction.
Levi bits his bottom lip and nods almost reluctantly. "They're my friends, I came here with them because they wanted some snacks."
I rolled my eyes. Snacks my ass.
" I'd love to get to know your friends Levi, they look friendly enough, why don't you call them over?" I said sarcasm dripping from my tone.
"What do those boys have to do with the current situation at hand officer?" Walker decides to speak up. My face turns cold as I give him a sizzling glare that shuts him up.
Levi agrees and calls the five boys who looked panicked when he called them over. I noticed all of them were white and had many ink tattoos covering their skins. Apparently Levi was the only black guy there and the smallest from what I could tell.
For teenagers they reeked danger and mischief. The one who looked older folds his arms and tries to act tough? He also had the nerve to speak. "What have you called us here for officer?" He taunts.
I ignored him and settled my gaze on Walker and directed my question towards him. "Were they with Levi when he supposedly stole the beer?"
Walker shifts from foot to foot looking reluctant to answer. "Yes they were."
"So did you see that he was the one who stole your beer?" I asked and pointed at Levi who looked uncomfortable.
"No-" He began but I cut him off.
"Walker owns it now." I answered vaguely.
I hear their footsteps disappear letting me know that they have left. I turned to face Walker. "So you're going to let them go without pressing charges?" I asked on purpose.
Walker shrugs. "They gave it back."
My eyes turns to slits. "I gave it back." I spat.
"Listen here you racist pig, next time I see you do that to an innocent boy again you'll be the one behind bars!"
I seethed and turned around to look for a packet of coffee when I spot one I quickly snatched it and bring it to the counter.
"Thank you officer Ryn." I hear Levi say softly behind me. I thought he had left but guess I was wrong.
I turn towards him and in a swift move pinched his ears." How many times do I have to warn you to stay away from the wrong crowd? Does your foster mom even know where you are?" I growled.
He squeezes his eyes shut and lets out a hiss. "She only knows that I went to a friend's house."
I sigh and let him go." Look Levi, you need to stop hanging out with people who aren't good for you. You're a sweet kid who has potential to become better than who you think you are right now. Stacy took you in because she saw that potential don't let her down."
Stacy was a forty five year old woman who goes to church on a regular basis. It was hard to not see her at church. She took her faith seriously. She took in Levi last year because she couldn't have kids.
He was already a troubled kid but there was something in him that Stacy saw and I believe that there was something too. Something special that he hasn't found yet.
He rubs his ears and looks away guiltily. "I know officer Ryn, I'll try."
I glare at him. "Go home Levi before I call Stacy and tell her what you're up to. And stay away from those teenagers!"
He nods and walks away. I turned back to see that Walker was passing the packet of coffee towards me. "That'll be three fifty." He says and I hand him the money roughly, getting ready to turn around when I heard a voice speak up.
"Well you handled that pretty well!" Ace praises from behind me.
