Ryn's pov
I looked at Stark in false shock. The news wasn't exactly new to me, I mean the guy was currently living with me. So for now I had to put on a show.
"What?" Nate's voice blasted through the busy place, making everyone leave what they were doing to stare at us three. I cringed inwardly, now everyone is listening to the conversation.
"Yes he's a wanted man, if Robert finds him before we do he'll be as good as dead." Captain Stark continued.
I arched a brow. "And exactly why do you want to find Ace before Robert? Wouldn't it be better for Robert to find him and get rid of one of our problems?" I asked. Of course I didn't want Robert to find the brute but I needed to know what Captain Stark had in mind.
"We could potentially use Ace to lure in Robert. If he does want him dead, then it'll be easy to make him fall for the bait." Captain Stark implied.
"And what will you do to Ace if by chance that Robert falls for it?" I questioned. For some reason I didn't like the idea of using Ace to lure in Robert. The thought sickened me to the core.
"Well we'll do to him exactly what we do to criminals." Stark claimed. My mood dampened. What he was insisting on could work but could put a lot of people in danger, Robert wasn't a man to be fooled easily or to be messed with.
I nodded pretending to actually take his words in. "Captain Stark with all due respect I think what you're initiating could potentially work, but Ace is a hard man to find and if we do find him it'll even be harder to make him come with us." I spoke up.
Captain Stark's face merged into one of irritation. "This isn't up for discussion officer Waters!" He spat.
"I agree with Ryn captain, this plan has at least ten percent of succeeding and that's just pushing it." Nate spoke up looking at the both of us. Of Course he would side with me, he always had.
"Find Ace and bring him to me." Stark continued to rage on.
"The Reeds have always been my case captain, so I'll do whatever I want. Be assured that I'll bring down both of them. But I'll be doing it my way." I voiced out earning a scowl from Stark, he wasn't pleased at my response.
He removed his furious eyes away from me and looked at the eavesdropping officers who were hanging onto every word that left his mouth.
"Ace Reed is on the loose, if anyone of you find him, bring him to me. Whoever brings the bastard in first will be rewarded. We don't have much time, Robert is also after him and apparently wants him dead. Do everything in your power to find him before he does." Stark yells at everyone before walking away, leaving everyone to mumble.
I glared at his retreating back until it was no longer visible. A slight nudge from Nate brought my attention towards him. He looked alarmed as he stared at me.
"What the hell are we going to do Ryn? Ace is a hard man to find, what could have possibly happened between him and Robert for him to want Ace dead. Isn't Ace his son, what kind of sick father is he?" Nate rushed out panicked.
I remained calm as I possibly could as I answered him. "Nate calm down, we don't need to find Ace, what we should do is go after Robert before he kills him."
"Are you kidding? Robert is even a harder man to find Ryn, it's basically impossible." Nate expressed.
"With Ace on the run Robert's bound to drop his guard. The man can't do anything without Ace. I'm pretty sure he'll be sloppy in finding him. All we have to do is stay on a low profile and keep our eyes open." I informed him.
"Ryn you know I'll always back you up but this doesn't sound like a good idea, finding Ace would be much simpler." He insisted. I sighed he was right but I couldn't find myself in giving up Ace for bait.
"Just trust me Nate, I know what I'm doing." I stated but I didn't know if I actually did. I was doubting if I had done the right thing by partnering up with Ace.
Nate studied my face before nodding in agreement. "Alright Ryn, I trust you." He mumbled. I gave him a slight smile and averted my head somewhere else. It felt so wrong in lying to him and keeping this huge secret away from him.
"That's enough!" Captain roared. "Ryn you've not been yourself lately. I think it's time you take a little break."
My heart skipped a beat at his words. What does he mean take a break?
"What do you mean captain?" I asked. Nervously looking at Nate who returned the look.
"I'm saying that you're suspended until I call you back in." He elaborated, clearly pleased at his words.
"What?" Both Nate and I yelled.
"It's clear that you have some anger issues, take some time to clear them out, your job will still be waiting for you when you are ready. For now go home." He claimed and smirked smugly.
"Captain you can't do that, Ryn is one of the best officers on the force, she's the only one who has a chance to catch the Reeds. Putting her on a side will not be for the best." Nate continued to argue. I sighed when I realized that Stark's face was still stoked the same, emotionless and upset.
"It's alright Nate, I'm leaving." I declared and walked away from the prying eyes of everyone. Nate's footsteps could be heard following me as I reached outside and headed to my motorcycle.
"Ryn maybe we should involve papa Nathan." Nate suggested. I shook my head as I got on the motorcycle and started it.
"I'm not involving papa Nathan this time. Besides who says that I'm done with taking down the Reeds? Stark has another thing coming if he thinks he could get me away from that case." I informed Nate. He smiled knowingly before giving me a thumbs up as I speeded away from the station.
It's time for Ace and I to put our plans into action.
