Violette's body seemed to retreat two steps involuntarily. The light in her eyes was instantly scattered. She couldn't believe that something like this would happen. Nor could she believe that she would be the one to take the fall!
Just because she had a conflict with Sarah yesterday, did that mean the blame was on her? Absurd!
"Violette!" He saw her step back, and his heart suddenly began constricting. "Answer me!"
"Elijah, I hate you! I'm starting to hate you again!" Violette shouted, louder than him. "Every time I start to like you, you show me just how despicable you can be!"
Elijah was stunned by her outburst and was frozen on the spot. Rain from outside constantly splashed on his back, chilling his bones, but the way he looked at her, was burning hot. The clash of ice and fire made him break free from the shackles of sanity, and he strode towards her.
"It wasn't you, was it?" He stood in front of her, gripping her thin shoulders tightly. His voice was now hoarse. "You're not that kind of person, Violette, I know you're not! I came to ask you because I want to hear you tell me, it wasn't you!"
"It wasn't me!" Her eyes were bloodshot as she said indignantly. "You shouldn't even ask me such a question!"
The mere thought of gouging someone's eyes out made her skin crawl! She could never do such a thing!
"But she said she heard your voice," Elijah said, puzzled. "She said that while she was being attacked, you were talking to her."
This ridiculous lie made her chuckle coldly in her heart. Yet, she could hear doubt in his tone.
She pushed his hand away forcefully. "Just because she's the victim, you believe everything she says! I didn't do it, no matter what she says!"
"Violette, I didn't say it was you..." He swallowed hard, trying to calm her down.
She slammed the villa's door shut, leaning weakly against it. In her ears was the unceasing sound of rain, and perhaps the sound of a heart breaking.
After a while, tears fell from the corner of her eyes to her mouth, and there was a muffled sound of thunder from outside.
She didn't know if he was still outside the door. She quickly turned around, opened the door—
The moment the door opened, he lifted his drooping head. She saw him wipe the rain off his face with his wet hand, then those dark eyes appeared in her sight again.
At this moment, even if the sky was falling, or thunder was striking, nothing could stop her frantic steps.
She stepped into the rain and hurried towards him!
