Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! novel Chapter 424

His mother was gone, his father was a vegetable lying in the hospital, and even his younger sister was going to leave him? No, God would not be so cruel to him!

Sterling continued pulling Nicole away, eager to leave as soon as possible.

However, Nicole broke free of his grasp. “Doctor, the patient being rescued… How is she?”

Nicole was almost stunned when she heard the news. Disbelief, shock, worry, and agony. All her emotions were mixed together but her eyes were just empty.

She no longer knew how to brace herself to face this matter and how she should feel.

The doctor heaved a heavy sigh and said, “The victim was burned all over and her body experienced two severe impacts before the fire. Moreover, she suffered a miscarriage as well… In short, her condition does not look good. For now, we can only say that we’re trying our best, but ultimately, it’s up to the patient’s will to live.”

With such severe injuries, it was normal if the doctors failed to rescue the patient. In fact, it would take a miracle for the patient herself to pull through.

However, seeing that the victim might be Sterling and Nicole’s relative, the doctor reserved himself from speaking the harsh truth, worried that the family might not be able to accept it.

Bang!

Just as Nicole passed out for a mere second, she heard a loud thump of something hitting the ground. Sure enough, she turned around to see Sterling crumpled on the floor. His face was as pale as a white sheet of paper, and his handsome face was filled with fear and disbelief.

Suffered a miscarriage…

Soph was pregnant too…

This might not turn out to be just a coincidence, and the person who was in the emergency room being rescued right now, the person who might die any second now, might really be… It might really be Soph.

Pain!

A heart-wrenching pain.

It was the kind of pain where every cell in the body could feel even when you breathed.

There was a mixture of blood and disinfectant in the air, and it was so heavy it was almost sickening. There was a strong urge, an instinct almost, to open her eyes, but she could not bring herself to do it.

She heard mumbles too, but she could not hear what the people were talking about.

Was she dead? Was she still alive?

Sophia mustered all her strength to open her eyes, and she immediately felt a tearing pain from the wound on her eyelid and cheek. There was a bright lamp above her head that hurt her eyes and she squinted.

“She’s awake!

“She made it!”

“What a miracle!!!”

Right this moment, everyone who had been involved in this operation collapsed to the floor in exhaustion.

When Victor heard that Sophia might be the car accident victim, he quickly requested to participate in the operation. Since he was not in the emergency care department, he merely helped as an assistant and aided the main surgeons by the sidelines.

He knew that the Harris family had been targeted recently and the patient lying on the operating table was a victim of premeditated murder, so he suspected that it might be Sophia.

Worried that someone might do something to Sophia in the operating room, he requested to scrub in so he could keep an eye out.

When he heard that the patient had woken up, he quickly walked over. “Ms. White?”

A part of him wished that it was not Sophia.

She had suffered enough in the past, and God should not let this happen to her.

Sophia slowly opened her eyes with much difficulty, and when she saw Victor, she thought something was wrong with her eyes. He was not a medical staff in the emergency department, so how could he possibly be here?

It was not until she heard Victor call out her name tentatively when she confirmed that the person standing beside her was him.

“Dr… Dr. Hemingway, please… tell… tell… everyone… that… I’m… I’m dead…”

Every breath Sophia took hurt her entire body, and her body was already in agony by just saying the simple sentence.

However, the pain she felt was nowhere near how much her heart ached.

Charles let go of the doctor and his arms fell limp beside his body. His throat tightened and he could feel his eyes welling up.

Sophia and their baby… were… dead?

“No, that’s impossible! Nothing can happen to Soph!” Sterling pushed the doctor away and ran into the emergency room. “Where’s Soph? Where did you put Soph?”

The doctors and nurses were shocked at his reaction, and the ones who were resting on the floor quickly got up as they stared at him cautiously.

“Soph… Soph!”

Sterling stumbled around like a headless fly. When he saw the body lying on the operating table, he slowly stopped in his tracks as he stared at the body blankly.

The entire body was charred and even her hair was burnt crisp. Bruises and burn wounds covered her face to the point that she was unrecognizable.

Even so, Sterling knew that this person was Sophia.

Seeing her like this, he could not help but wonder. How much pain was she in when she died?

Charles was in the room as well, and his eyes misted over when he saw the body laying on the operating table. He blinked harshly and walked to the operating table as he bit his lips.

“Sophia?”

Charles called out gently. He wanted to reach out and touch her face, but he quickly retracted his hand before he even touched her.

Seeing the bruises and wounds all over her body, touching her would only hurt her.

“Sophia, I’m here to bring you home.” Charles knelt before the operating table and kept his gaze on the person who laid below him with her eyes closed. “Let’s go home, shall we?”

He reached out his hand carefully to cup her face and lowered his head to kiss her forehead gently.

She had told him that she would give him the chance to spend the rest of their lives together, but why was she breaking her promise now? Why did she leave him so soon?

Everyone would have thought what Charles was doing was romantic.

Although the doctors and nurses could understand what Charles was feeling now, the scene made their skin crawl. After all, it was a burnt corpse lying on the operating table now.
