Sylvia was sitting alone downstairs in the hall, and her makeup seemed much thicker than usual. However, even so, they did nothing to conceal the handprint on her cheek.
Judging from how swollen her cheek was, the culprit certainly did not hold anything back when slapping her.
She could not help but wonder who this person was though.
“You’re quite lucky,” Sylvia said as she glanced at Sophia briefly, “Have a seat.”
However, Sophia did not sit down. She remained about three meters away from Sylvia and stared at the woman cautiously.
Sylvia had had her bodyguards strike her unconscious, yet did nothing, and instead, earned a slap on her cheek… Everything just seemed strange now.
“Sit down, I won’t drag you to an abortion clinic now nor would I do anything to you.” Sylvia pointed at the handprint on her cheek and continued with a sneer, “Do you see this? All I did was get someone to knock you out and I got slapped.”
Sophia still remained standing far away from her.
The only person who could control Sylvia was the mysterious bigshot, but why would that person help her when she was in no way related to the bigshot?
Sylvia’s words sounded more like lies.
“Do you not believe me?” Perhaps it was because she had been slapped, Sylvia was much more irritable than usual.
“The person behind my back doesn’t want to have Charles as a mortal enemy. He’s worried that forcing an abortion on you and raping you would only aggravate Charles, and so he forbade me to do anything! He even slapped me too! Do you believe me now?”
Her voice got higher and higher as she screamed and almost broke toward the end.
So that was the case. “So can I go now?”
Sophia still did not sit down. She felt that the longer she was around Sylvia, the more danger she was in.
Seeing that she was insisting on leaving, Sylvia made no sign to keep her either. She merely snorted. “I’ll arrange for someone to report to Charles that you stole Harris Corporation’s private and confidential information and everything will go according to plan. Don’t let me catch you trying to play any tricks!”
“Ms. Yates, that’s funny of you to say that. You have a team of bodyguards following me everywhere all the time, and let’s not forget the recording device you have on me. How can I possibly try anything funny?” Sophia replied snarkily.
Sylvia stared at her in disdain with a condescending sneer on her lips.
She paused for a long moment before replying, “Get a taxi back yourself, they won’t follow you anymore.”
Sophia thought she had misheard. Did Sylvia just tell her that the bodyguards would no longer follow her?
“Do you mean that they won’t follow me anymore?”
“As long as you cooperate tomorrow and successfully break up with Charles, your task will be completed, so why should they still follow you around?”
Not having the bodyguards around was a good thing, but Sophia still had a strange feeling. At the same time, she was worried that Sylvia might change her mind if she stayed a second longer, and so she quickly left.
Right then, it was already dark outside and the ground was covered with a coat of snow. The mixture of the white snow that obscured the dark, black tar made her uncomfortable.
Sophia had left her coat at Sylvia’s and she had no idea where her purse was.
Sylvia’s villa was in the outskirts and the weather was horrible. Sophia walked for about ten minutes or so, but she saw no signs of a car nor even a single person. It seemed impossible for her to even borrow a phone to make a call.
Her hands and feet were frozen, whereas the tip of her nose and her forehead were getting numb from the cold.
In the darkness, she suddenly saw a car slowly driving in her direction, the dim yellow light looking unusually warm on a frosty snowy day.
The chances of seeing another car at this place were probably zero, and so Sophia slowly made her way to the car and waved her arms as much as she could to signal the car to stop.
Either the driver did not see her or the driver disliked people who hailed cars down, the car only accelerated toward her instead.
Baby…
Her baby…
Sophia wanted to ask the person who hit her to save her and her baby, and as long as the person helped, she would do anything to repay the favor.
However, her mouth was filled with blood, and even she opened her mouth, she could only make a low groan.
She wanted to get up but she was hurting so much all over she could not move. Even a simple gesture as opening her eyes was extremely difficult.
In the dark, silent night, the sound of the car door clicking open was unusually crisp and clear.
The metallic taste of blood in her mouth was overwhelming, and she used all her strength to turn around. She first saw a pair of feet, and when she slowly moved her gaze upward, she saw a familiar face. “Le…”
She tried to speak but blood rushed up into her mouth again and she could not make a sound.
“You’re completely useless, I really don’t know which part of you attracted Charles. What do you think are the chances of him falling for me when you’re no longer in the picture?”
The smile on Leah’s face was gentle and soft as if she had not just driven a car into Sophia.
Blood continued flowing down her legs and Sophia knew deep down inside that she had lost her and Charles’ baby. In fact, her life might be coming to an end soon as well.
She felt pain all over her body and her upper torso was already numb from the immeasurable agony that she felt. Blood from her forehead stuck to her lashes, almost blurring her vision.
Still, she forced herself to keep her eyes open as she glared at Leah bitterly.
She wanted to remember how Leah Jones looked like, and if there was an afterlife where she was a ghost, she would certainly haunt this woman who killed her baby!
“The look you’re giving me is making me uncomfortable.” Leah’s lips curled up into a small smile as she moved nearer and placed one foot on Sophia’s eyes. “People always say that your eyes are your most beautiful feature, but I personally hate your eyes the most.”
