If Audrey was being honest, she genuinely wanted to be married to William. Otherwise, she would not have asked Sophia for help, but if the price she had to pay was to drag the Sommer family down, she would rather give up.
However, she was unwilling to give up like this.
“Anyway, just think about it. I know William misunderstood you for some time, but try to remember how good he had been to you. If you don’t help him now, you might regret it one day in the future.”
Anyone would reconsider their choices if they were warned that they might regret their decisions, who knew if Sophia might soften up all of a sudden?
Unfortunately for Audrey, Sophia was not an idiot, nor would she soften up all of a sudden. “If I help the Jones family turn around, I’ll only be aiding them in restoring their strengths to go up against White Industries later on. When that happens, I think I’ll regret it then.”
She could tell that Audrey was not going to badger her anymore, and so she turned to Victor. “I’m getting a bit tired from standing for so long. Dr. Hemingway, let’s go and sit there for a while.”
Sophia pointed to a corner.
Victor nodded, and under Audrey’s upset gaze, they walked toward the corner together.
“Thank you for just now, Dr. Hemingway.” If he had not interfered, who knew how long Audrey would have pestered her.
Victor gave her a smile and replied, “You’re welcome. Even if I wasn’t there, I’m sure someone would have come to your help. We’re in Harris territory anyway, Mr. Harris wouldn’t allow anyone unwelcome to disturb you.”
There was a stray strand of hair draped by her forehead and he subconsciously reached out to help her push it back her ear, but coincidentally, she was just about to do the same and their hands came into contact.
He was stunned for a moment and quickly withdrew his hand. “I’m sorry.”
Although the contact was brief, the soft touch of her skin lingered in his hand.
A weird feeling flashed through his mind.
“It’s fine.” He had been her attending doctor for a while now, so she was quite used to his physical touch since he usually did her acupuncture sessions and checked her leg. Naturally, she did not think much about a simple action as such where their hands accidentally touched.
Victor stared at her intently. He suddenly realized how long and thick her eyelashes were, that when she lowered her gaze, they would cast a small shadow under her eyelids.
“Alright.”
Victor got up and took a few steps forward before running into Charles.
Charles looked over him and paused his gaze on Sophia who was not far away. After a short pause, he turned to Victor. “Dr. Hemingway, you’re here.”
“Yeah.” Victor nodded lightly and continued, “Now that Master Harris just passed away, many of the Harris family’s rivals should be targeting you. Do keep an eye out and stay alert, Mr. Harris.”
“Thank you for your concern, Dr. Hemingway.”
“You’re welcome, I’m just worried that Ms. White might get involved in your affairs.”
The corners of Charles’ lower lips curled up slightly but the smile did not reach his eyes. “You seem to care about my woman a lot.”
“My aunt is always reminding me to take care of her and look out for her, please don’t misinterpret my intentions. Besides, Mr. Harris, you should know better than me how troublesome the Harris family’s rivals are,” Dr. Hemingway replied.
