“If something happens to Sterling, I’ll never forgive you!” The veins on James’ forehead were popping out. “Two years ago, I said you’ll have no relationship with us Whites. Why are you still pestering Sterling? Will you only be happy if you kill him?”
“Can we really break off our blood ties just like this?” The taste of blood was spreading in her mouth. When Sophia wiped the corner of her lips, she noticed there was a cut. “If you regret giving birth to me that much, you should have just ejaculated on the wall back then.”
She thought her father would be concerned about her if he knew that she had tried to kill herself. Heh. She overestimated herself.
James was gasping for air. His face was twisted. However, he was worried other people might hear him, so he tried his best to lower his voice as he yelled, “Sterling is so good to you. If you still have some ounce of conscience left, you should just leave him alone.”
After she heard that, Sophia grabbed the corner of her shirt and forced her tears back by tilting her head backward.
If she was not worried that Charles would harm the Whites, she would have killed herself a long time ago. She would not keep living in pain and humiliation.
However, in her father’s eyes, she was just a burden!
“If the reason you looked for Sterling is for money, I can give it to you.” After all, she was his beloved daughter. James’ heart still softened a little when he saw her this way.
He opened his briefcase and signed a cheque to hand it to her. “I’ll give you three hundred thousand bucks first. Send your bank account to my secretary, and I’ll ask him to send you two million. Don’t pester the Whites anymore.”
“Three hundred thousand?” Sophia took the cheque and smiled when she saw the amount. “It’s equivalent to my salary for six years.”
James put his pen back into his briefcase and said, “As long as you play your part, this amount is enough for a lifetime. I won’t fuss over the fact that you ruined my collaboration. However, don’t appear in front of…”
Rip!
Sophia smiled at him and ripped the cheque. Then, she threw it at his face. “Collaboration? What collaboration? A collaboration with Charles?”
“You…” James was furious. When he opened his mouth, he was interrupted by Sophia’s cold chuckle. “Why are you blaming me when he’s the one who refuses to work with you? Because he hates me for hurting the person he loves?”
She was smiling sadly. “All of you say that I ran over Leah. Why won’t any of you believe that I’ve been falsely accused? Is it because Leah is gentle and generous while I’m a hedonistic child with rich parents? Ah? You people are aggrieved, and I’m not? Who’s going to feel sorry for me?”
Her heart was in a mess. She did not know what she was talking about. She only knew that she could not breathe from the number of things she had kept hidden in her heart.
Why was everyone blaming her?
Why was everyone calling her a sinner?
What had she done?
She had not done anything, but her leg was still broken by the person she loved. She was even sent to prison for two years. Then, she was sent to be humiliated in Dream Club. Was she not the most aggrieved one here?
Sophia was a bastard before, but she had never been like this in front of James. His face was red from anger, and he was clutching on his chest. It was as if he was struggling to breathe.
When she saw this, Sophia did not do anything. She wanted him to feel what it was like to be abandoned by his family.
However, she understood the despair of being abandoned by her family members, so she could not bring herself to do it.
“Where is your medicine?” Sophia suppressed the fluctuating emotions in her heart and asked after walking toward James.
James was having a heart attack. Every breath of his was heavy and difficult. Even if that was the case, he still said with his neck tense, “Leave… Leave me alone.”
“Sophia’s working here. Don’t you want to look at her before leaving?” Leah tried to make him stay with an innocent expression on her face.
James closed the door and pretended he did not hear her.
Leah watched as the door of the elevator closed slowly. She curled her lips and turned her wheelchair to Sophia’s direction. She complained. “Uncle James is such a nice person, but why is he so cruel with you? I already said that I don’t blame you, but he’s still… Sigh.”
“There’s only the two of us here. You don’t need to put on an act, Miss Jones.” Sophia looked at her coldly. She figured that she must have been an idiot before. She treated a wolf as her best friend.
“Pretend?” Leah sighed and said helplessly, “Sophia, even though you’ve wronged me, I really don’t blame…”
Sophia interrupted her. “We both know exactly what had happened back then. Don’t you feel gross acting like this, Miss Jones?”
“Know exactly what had happened?” Leah said those five words slowly and laughed.
Her laugh sounded strange. It was as if she was mocking her, but at the same time, she sounded pleased. Goosebumps appeared on Sophia’s skin. She felt uneasy. “Miss Jones, is there anything else? If not, I’m going.”
“I’m here to give you medicine.” Leah took out a tube of ointment. “I remember that you have some bruises on your knees. Put some on. I don’t know if this can help with the swelling on your cheek, though.”
Sophia looked at the ointment with her head lowered. She did not take it. She did not dare to use the thing Leah gave her out of ‘kindness’.
“Don’t be so courteous to me. Take it.” Leah shoved the ointment into her hand and looked at the handprint on her face. She said worriedly, “Who did this? It looks like a man’s hand.”
Then, she covered her mouth with her hands as if she remembered something. She said in surprise, “D-did Uncle James do this? He’ll even worry about the education of those abandoned children in the hills. He’s such a nice man. Why did he slap his daughter so hard?”
