Sophia had heard much worse words than this. She apologized to Maisie and did what she was instructed to. She headed back to the office of the chief finance officer.
The office door was not completely closed. She could see Maisie lecturing someone in there. Sophia hesitated but knocked on the door.
“Come in!” Maisie did not even look at her.
She continued berating the person standing in front of her desk coldly, “What did your team promise about the financial analysis deadline?! Take a look at the date today!”
The person’s head was lowered. They said in a low voice, “It’s just about to be…”
“Stop telling me that it’s just about to be done. You said that yesterday! If you knew you weren’t able to do it, why did you promise me?! This is deception! You’re making use of someone else’s trust for you!!” Maisie interrupted sharply.
That person’s face went bright red as the apologies continued.
Bam!
Maisie slammed hard onto the table and sat in her chair. “Give it to me! Give me the analysis you have just done and let me have a look!”
“Ms. Leadman, I…”
“Give it to me now! If it’s not with you, go on and bring it to me! How did such a pig-brain like you manage to get into White Industries’ headquarters?!”
That person was quite dejected over the scolding. They headed out to get the documents with a lowered head and droopy shoulders.
Maisie was breathing rapidly in anger. She turned her gaze to Sophia. “You’re something else, aren’t you? Using all morning just for an onboarding into the company.”
“I’m sorry, I’ll try not to make the same mistake next time,” Sophia lowered her eyes and answered calmly.
Maisie replied with a stoic expression, “I need a definitive answer! Not that you’ll try your best! You haven’t done a thing all morning. I don’t think you’ll accomplish anything even if I gave you another afternoon!”
She had learned plenty of things the last few days, but she could not say that there was no need for her to go home and learn them. If she ended up getting stumped when Maisie asked her a question, it might make things worse for her with Maisie.
“Goodbye, Ms. Leadman,” Sophia said goodbye to Maisie and grabbed her bag to head out.
When the door was completely closed, Maisie grunted coldly, “What can she amount to when she backs off after a few words?”
Sophia got off the elevator as everyone looked curiously at her while she left the office in a slightly awkward manner.
She had imagined different scenarios about what would happen on her first day of work, but she never thought that she would only last half a day in the office before she embarrassingly got kicked out by her superior.
Sophia turned back to look at the gold-colored words of ‘White Industries’, frowning slightly. She was unwilling to go home just like that. She absent-mindedly headed straight along the walkway, thinking about how best to get along with Maisie.
If her upcoming days in the office were similar to today, she would not be able to learn a thing besides receiving scoldings…
