Sophia threw her phone on the bed and crouched down weakly on the ground. She wrapped her hands around her head and took in a deep, pained breath as her body trembled.
Between her and Charles, she could no longer tell who made more mistakes but there was one thing she was sure of.
Leah had played her like a toy, and she was dumb enough to only find out now. What in the world actually happened back then!
Sophia did not know why Leah approached her all of a sudden in the first place, nor did she know if Leah genuinely wanted to be her friend, but the cold, harsh truth was that Leah had begun scheming against her since five years ago!
How stupid was she!
Beep——
Beep——
Her phone began to buzz once again.
Sophia did not move at all as she stayed put crouching on the ground, her eyes bloodshot at this point.
Her phone stopped buzzing after a while, and a few moments later, began buzzing again. It went on several times until the door clicked open and Charles walked into the room.
He looked down at Sophia on the floor while she looked up at the same time, and he was greeted by the sight of her bloodshot eyes. His heart ached as if it had been pierced by thousands of needles.
Charles suddenly regretted his decision.
When he sent the recorded video to the media, he imagined Sophia to hate him less after finding out the truth.
However, seeing her in this state right now, he regretted his actions… He should have talked to her and tell her everything from the very beginning, or at least gave her some time to process the entire incident.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Sophia’s voice was hoarse and every word that came out from her mouth was a struggle. “Why didn’t you tell me before you did all of these?”
Charles walked in front of her and stretched his hand out to her.
Sophia remained still as she stared at him from the floor stubbornly. “Charles Harris, you broke my leg and sent me to prison… Why didn’t you tell me it was because Leah was threatening you?”
“So what if I have told you?” Charles bent over and grabbed her right below her armpit, then forced her up.
Being pulled up suddenly after squatting down for a long time, Sophia felt her head spin. Her legs buckled and she stumbled.
That was right, so what if he had told her about it?
There was nothing she could do!
Charles’s gaze followed her carefully, and when he saw her standing unsteadily, he reached out and pulled her into his arms.
Their skin pressed against each other as her soft curves molded into his taut muscles. What could have supposedly been romantic, however, turned out to be an aggressive confrontation.
Sophia pushed Charles away and staggered backward until her back hit the wall. She looked up at him with her bloodshot eyes and cried out, “Do you think that I should thank you for doing all these behind my back?”
“No,” Charles replied, “I didn’t lose anything when I broke your leg and sent you to prison. I was hurting you, and it’s due to my incompetence that I can’t even protect the woman I like.”
Sophia stared at him with her fists tightly clenched. Her lashes trembled as tears began to roll down her face.
It hurt.
It hurt badly.
She could not deny the fact that Charles had done a lot of things for her, but it was also a fact that he had sent her to the Dream Club to be humiliated because of a misunderstanding.
She no longer knew who owed the other and most important, she was not sure if she hated him less or loved him more…
“Don’t get annoyed at my missed calls and messages, I just wanted to tell you that I’m sorry.” Megan’s careful voice sounded from the other end of the phone.
There was only fatigue left in Sophia. “You never did anything to me so there’s no need for you to apologize.”
“No.” Megan gave a wry laugh. “I once told you that humans are complicated, and I asked you to be more open-minded, to not be so harsh with your friends, but I was wrong. I didn’t know what you have been through and I shouldn’t have said anything to you.”
“To have such a despicable friend like Ms. Jones is just…” She paused mid-sentence, unable to find the words to describe Leah.
Sophia was certainly not in the mood to talk about these things with her right now. “We’re even now then, we don’t owe each other anything anymore. Is there anything else?”
“You’re so realistic it’s scary sometimes.” Megan was not long-winded and all, keeping her long message short. “One more thing. I went back to Dream Club today to pack up my things and I bumped into Mr. Jones.”
Sophia frowned immediately at the sound of his name. “He’s none of my business, I don’t want to know anything about him.”
“The front desk told me that Mr. Jones had been kneeling at the entrance of the club for over an hour. He kept apologizing and talking about how he’s sorry toward you. I think you affected him… quite badly,” Megan continued.

At the entrance of Dream Club.
It was November, so even when the sun was out shining brightly, the temperature was still quite cold.
William merely wore a white button-up shirt and suit trousers as he kneeled in front of Dream Club, his blazer and coat tossed aside beside him.
Perhaps he had been kneeling on the ground for a long time, or perhaps it was the low temperature, his lips were pale and he did not look good.
William had found the news of his sister framing Sophia shocking enough, but he had not expected anything more, especially threatening Charles that if he did not want her to sue Sophia, he would break Sophia’s legs and have her sent to jail for two years, and even went so far as to ask the White Family to sever all ties with her!
