Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! novel Chapter 236

Watching his departing back, Sophia furrowed her brows harder and harder. Then, she pursed her lips, hesitated for a moment, and entered the villa as well.

"What did you say to make your brother so mad?" Nicole asked her. "He came back with an awful look on his face just now and entered the room while slamming the door without saying anything!"

Sophia twitched her lips. "... Nothing."

"Did you tell Sterling to leave you alone again?" Nicole sighed and asked, staring at her.

Sophia lowered her head and licked her dry lips without saying a word.

Nicole glanced at James and Jenny who were sitting next to her. They were having a cold war with each other. Nicole said, "Soph, don’t say things like that to your brother anymore. We will be no different than the rest if we leave you alone."

Sophia frowned. “Nicole, I…”

"That’s enough." Nicole cut her off, smiled, and said, "Your brother slammed the door just now and woke Jenna and Lennie up. You haven't met them yet, right? Let’s go upstairs and see them."

A trace of hesitation flashed in Sophia's eyes. However, Nicole gave her no chance to refuse at all as she got up and pulled her upstairs straight away.

In the room, the children had just woken up not long ago and were now crying at the top of their lungs.

Sterling was coaxing the twins, feeling at a loss when the children ignored him completely. One of them was crying while the other kept kicking Sterling with a pair of chubby legs.

"Dada, bad, bad!"

"Dada, big bad man! Big bad man!"

When they heard the sound of the door opening, the children stopped crying at the same time and turned to look at the door while they sobbed and wiped their tears.

Sophia was caught off guard when she bumped into two pairs of huge black eyes. It was a strange feeling. It was probably because of the blood relationship they shared that she could not help but feel a sense of closeness even though she had not met them before.

"Jenna, Lennie, call Aunt Sophia," Nicole walked up to the children, pointed at Sophia, and said softly.

The twins looked exactly the same and were even wearing the same clothes. Sophia could not even tell them apart. One of them tilted their head and said with a dazed look on their face, "Call Aunt Sophia..."

The other grinned, revealing a mouthful of uneven baby teeth. They were smiling so hard even their eyes had disappeared. "Aunt Sophia!"

The children’s pronunciation sounded slightly unclear when they addressed her. It was a little childish and soft, melting Sophia’s cold heart instantly when she heard it.

She walked up to the children and stroked their heads very gently. "Good children."

Her palm was about the size of their faces. Moreover, their hands and their bodies were so tiny that everything seemed strange to her.

"Call Aunt Sophia!" the child cried out again in a childish voice.

The child next to him immediately waved their chubby fist in front of their face. "Dummy brother. It’s Aunt Sophia, Aunt Sophia!"

"This one here is the big sister. She loves to laugh and is also fiercer. Her name’s Jenna. Next to her, the silly and dazed-looking one who’s always yelling ‘call Aunt Sophia’ is Lennie. I think he inherited your brother’s genes more, that’s why he’s a little dumb," Nicole said with a smile.

Sterling was unhappy now. "Why am I the dumb one? Darling, tell me, I was always at the bottom ten, but didn’t you always come in last?"

"That's only because I didn’t want to study." Nicole cast a sidelong glance at him, then lowered her head and asked the children, "Is Daddy dumb?"

Jenna reacted very quickly. Her sparkly black eyes rolled in their sockets. "Daddy dumb!"

Sophia met the child’s limpid eyes as soon as she lowered her head. She bent down until she was eye level with the child. "Be good, Jenna. Aunt Sophia will come and play with you again next time."

Jenna frowned, looking extremely grumpy. She then turned to look at Charles suddenly and said angrily, "Bad man!"

"Please don’t mind her, Mr. Harris. She’s still a child." Nicole explained with a smile, then turned her head around and glared at Sterling. Had he not pointed at Mr. Harris’ photos all day and taught the two children how to say ‘bad man’, then Jenna would not have done this!

Charles’ indifferent gaze hovered over to Jenna. "It's okay."

Sophia recalled the words he said when he used both children as threats to blackmail her. She stood up and walked to his side, speaking at a slightly faster rate than usual, "Let's go."

Having said that, she walked out in just a few steps and closed the door.

Charles followed her without a word.

"We have always made sure that someone cleans Soph’s room in the last two years, so it’s very clean." James walked beside them and said, "It's late now. Why don't the two of you stay here?"

Charles did not answer but looked at Sophia who was walking next to him instead.

Sophia did not even stop walking. She refused succinctly. "No."

"It’s fine if you don’t want to stay the night. Stay for dinner before you leave, then," James said with a gentle smile on his face. "The food is currently being prepared in the kitchen. We’ll be able to eat soon."

Sophia had already reached the last step. When she reached the living room, she kept walking. Her voice sounded slightly more indifferent now. "A murderer like me who was driven out of the White family doesn’t deserve your kind treatment, Mr. White."

"I was mad back then, that’s why I said a few unpleasant things to you in a fit of pique. You are my only daughter, how can I bring myself to drive you out of the White family?" James sighed softly. "If the Jones hadn’t driven me into a corner, I wouldn’t have treated you like that either.”
