"Master Harris, my daughter may be insensible, but you as an elder promised to send her away yet ended up tricking her into prison. I just..." James said with great distress. After a choke, he said, "Don’t you think you’ve gone a little too far this time?"
Sterling looked sullen. He tried to open his mouth to speak several times but was stopped from doing so by Nicole.
Jenny was wiping her tears with her handkerchief. Her voice sounded choked and hoarse. "You’re a person who could have been Soph’s grandpa. How can you be so cruel to her? How can you have no compassion at all?”
"Jenny..." James tried to stop her.
However, Jenny smacked him away and said with tearful eyes, "I understand that Soph made a mistake when Charles sent her to prison back then. Right now, she’s just trying to leave. How can you trick her into prison after you’ve agreed to take her away?
"East Suburb Prison—is that even a place for humans?
"Master Harris, the Harris family may be a huge household with a major business that neither the White Industries nor the Fisher family can compare to.
"But, I still hold 20 percent of White Industries’ shares. If you do this to Soph again, I will cash out these stocks and hire someone to kill you! If one doesn't work, I’ll hire two. If two don't work, I’ll hire three! You have Harris Corporation to worry about, but I have nothing to lose!”
When she got to the end of her sentence, she was so emotional that her voice sounded slightly sharp and piercing to the ears.
There were several times when James tried to stop her but ended up getting ignored by her. He could not help breaking out in cold sweat after hearing the threats she made toward the end of her sentence.
"Don't touch me, you scumbag!" When he had irritated Jenny too much, she shoved him away directly. Her image as a gentle and meek woman was gone. She was just like a madwoman.
Sophia stood on the sidelines watching the scene unfold before her eyes. Her throat tightened slightly. There were mixed feelings in her heart and a multitude of thoughts racing through her mind that she could neither cut off nor make sense of.
Jenny had embarrassed James so much that his face was awfully sullen.
He smiled sheepishly and said to Master Harris, "Jenny is too emotional, that’s why she’s saying things like hiring assassins and whatnot. Master Harris, please don’t be mad at a woman like her."
Sophia sneered when she saw how her father was scolding Master Harris one second and looking fearful of getting blamed by him the next. Irony was written all over her face.
Unlike her mother, her father was only blaming Master Harris to make the latter feel guilty so that he could get some benefits from him. Her mother, on the contrary, actually blamed Master Harris.
Master Harris was put in a tight spot after so many people learned that he had dealt with a young junior personally. He put on a dark and somber expression while remaining silent the whole time.
Sophia clenched her fists slightly, took a deep breath, and walked to the middle of the crowd. "You’ve misunderstood Master Harris, Mom. He wasn’t trying to send me to prison. He was helping me."
"Help… Helping you?" Jenny was crying so hard that her tears were still hanging by her eyelashes.
Sophia grabbed the hem of her clothes and tried her best to lift the corners of her lips. "My inmates used to bully me a lot back then, so Master Harris sent his men to take me to prison to teach those inmates a lesson after learning that I can’t stomach this insult. He was trying to help me vent out my anger."
Master Harris always had mood swings and did things ruthlessly. Would he even do such a thing? Other than Ted and his family, none of the Harris family members ever experienced Master Harris’ kindness as an elder, let alone Sophia!
There were many Harris family members standing next to them. After hearing Sophia's explanation, various thoughts started running through their minds.
The news that Sophia was ‘pregnant’ had spread out between the Harris family members. Many quickly linked Master Harris' favor for Sophia with her pregnancy. Even the way they looked at Sophia was different now.
Master Harris saw through their thoughts at one glance and was also aware that Sophia was using him to boost support. Even so, he simply harrumphed with a sullen look on his face and chose not to expose her.
Charles frowned slightly. "I’ll go with..."
"Go on," Yvette said, "Be careful on your way. It’s hard to get a ride to Bamboo Virtues Village, so give Charles a call when you come back and ask him to pick you up."
"Thank you, Aunt Harris." Sophia smiled faintly, then said to Sterling and Nicole, "Let's go."
Charles lifted his leg and was about to follow them when Yvette grabbed him. She sighed. "Charles, if you clench sand too tightly, it will only slip through your fingers faster."
Charles retracted his leg. It was only until Sophia's back disappeared from his line of vision did he retract his gaze.
Yvette shook her head gently at the sight of his reaction.
"Charles, now that Sophia is pregnant, what do you plan to do with the Jones?" Ted walked over and said, "I think you should ask Sophia to abort the baby. Otherwise, you won't get anything in the end if you make your grandpa mad."
Charles chuckled and looked at him with an indifferent gaze. "Why are you more concerned about Sophia than I am, Uncle Ted? Are you afraid that Grandpa will leave more inheritance to the first great-grandson instead of to you?"
"Do you even hear yourself?" Ted said embarrassingly. "I’m only concerned about you as your elder. Think about it, is Leah any worse than Sophia?"
Charles said, "For me, Leah can't compare to Sophia at all."
"I was once young myself. I know what young people think. Let me tell you this, what you’re thinking right now may not be what you think in the future!" Ted did his best to persuade Charles. "You should ask Sophia to get an abortion and marry Leah. Otherwise, you won’t get anything at all and will definitely regret it in the future!"
