Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! novel Chapter 207

Sophia White frowned as she entered the kitchen. There was freshly cooked lean meat congee placed on the counter as well as some side dishes.

She pressed her lips and went to open the fridge. She closed it again after looking through all the different meat and vegetables in there, and returned to the counter.

After having a simple meal, Sophia White suddenly remembered something. She returned to her room and took out her handphone, and started typing out a message for her brother.

[I’ve discussed it over with Master Harris. He will send someone to take me away and he won’t allow Charles Harris to give you and sister-in-law any trouble. I’m not sure where I’ll be going but I’ll get in touch with both of you once I’m there.]

Her fingers hovered above the ‘Send’ button once she was done typing, but she did not click on it in the end. Instead, she deleted the message word by word.

Her brother was never one to keep things inside. If she told him about this, he would have done something to alert Charles Harris. If that happened, nothing would be gained and all would be lost.

It would not be too late to inform her grandparents after Master Lewis’ wedding.

Sophia White stayed in Bamboo Virtues Village for the next few days, except leaving once to take her driving exam for Subject 1.

Yvette Cox had dropped by in between to chat, but she did not look too well, as if there was something on her mind. Sophia White tried to find out more, but Yvette Cox was tight-lipped about it, so she stopped asking.

Very soon, it was time for Master Lewis’ wedding.

Charles Harris had prepared Sophia White’s gown in advance, and even hired a few image consultants and hairstylists over to give her help.

“I’ll just put on something simple,” Sophia White did not want to look too grand. For one, the Jones and Lewis family never wanted to invite her in the first place and it would not look good to dress up in something too catching to the eye.

Secondly, Master Harris had arranged for someone to take her away tonight. It would be inconvenient for her to be dressed too complicated.

Charles Harris pulled her over and pressed her down into the chair in front of the dressing table. He said casually, “You’re attending the wedding with me. There’s no need to worry about the Jones and Lewis family spotting you.”

Sophia White frowned and wanted to stand up, but he placed a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t move.”

A bunch of people crowded around Sophia White and everyone got into a fight over one question on her image. They argued until they were red-faced and the quarrel prolonged. It hurt her ears to listen to them, so she lowered her head instead to play with her phone.

[Brother] Soph, do you need me to bring over a gown or accessories? I’ve bid for quite a few good stuff for the past two years and I’d like to give them to you as presents… It’s just that, they aren’t as nice-looking as that jade pendant.

Sophia White was leaving tonight and it was inconvenient to bring along a bunch of stuff, so she quickly rejected him. She had wanted to tell her brother the news of her leaving tonight, but she gave up on the notion after glancing at Charles Harris beside her from the side of her eyes.

She put away her phone and frowned when she saw the jade pendant hung around Charles Harris’ neck.

Charles Harris cocked his head to the side and glanced at her, as if noticing her gaze, and later buttoned up the top two buttons on his shirt, blocking the jade pendant on his neck.

Sophia White’s frown deepened as she pointed at his neck, “This pendant…”

“I spotted it in an antique shop and really liked it the moment I laid my eyes on it. I can’t give it to you,” Charles Harris gently smoothed down invisible wrinkles on his suit as he looked at her with his head still cocked to the side.

Sophia White pursed her lips and turned away without an expression while Charles Harris stood up and headed upstairs.

Not long after, Charles Harris came back downstairs with a black box and gave it to Sophia White. She looked at it without touching the box, so he opened it up and took out a dark green jade pendant in the shape of a water drop. The color looked even better than the jade pendant Sophia White had previously.

Charles Harris held the jade pendant in his hand as he bent down to help her put it on, but she reached out her hand to stop him, glancing at his neck meaningfully without saying a word.

Phoebe Day Hotel.

BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Bentley, Ferrari, Porsche, Maybach, Rolls-Royce… Rows of luxury cars took over the parking spot in front of the hotel. At that moment, hotel workers were directing a Land Rover and a Rolls-Royce towards the basement parking.

There was a red carpet close to two hundred meters placed at the hotel entrance. More than twenty people in suits or cheongsams were standing close to the hotel’s entrance. They were ushers arranged by the hotel while the other hundred over people were bodyguards in charge of protecting the safety of the VIPs.

As Master Lewis’ wedding guest list was basically made up of tycoons, socialites, and some government officials, the police had arranged for dozens of plain-clothes policemen to inspect the crowd to prevent any unforeseen circumstances.

Men and women dressed to the skies continuously got off their vehicles. They were either laughing and chatting, looked dignified, appeared classy and elegant, or delightedly walking into the hotel under the camera flashes.

Some of them would give a comment or two when thrust with microphones from reporters, while others would wave their hands, rejecting any form of interview. Occasionally, passers-by would come by to join the crowd and take pictures while asking what was going on.

The hotel workers busied themselves as they led the guests to the main hall, where the wedding was held, in an organized way and quickly returned downstairs to usher in the next batch of guests.

The Lewis and Jones family were standing outside the main hall to welcome their guests, but even though it was an auspicious day, their smiles were forced. Only Leah Jones’ smile was considerably natural-looking, although it was borderline.

“Mr. Lowry, you’re here! Please, come in, come in!”

“Oh, Director Lee, it’s an honor to have you. Thank you for making the journey!”

Mr. Jones, Leah Jones, and a few senior members of the Lewis family knew how to greet their guests, but Madam Jones, William Jones, and a few younger members of the Lewis family had put on long faces. Every one of them wanted badly to hide in a hole.

Guests who had a good relationship with the Jones and Lewis family were still able to say nice things, but as for those who were not on friendly ties with them, regardless of obvious bad ties or subtle ones, there was nothing nice being said…
