Sophia looked into the distance. The flourishing city lit up in brilliant colors and was awe-inspiring to look at. Many people had lost themselves in the view, yet it only sickened and annoyed her.
She massaged her sore calf, walked to the side of the pool, and scooped out the garbage in it. She then put the garbage in the garbage bag and drained the pool. She dragged her weary body and endured the intense drowsiness as she cleaned the swimming pool.
The air was cool at night. It was slightly cold for her to clean this place wearing only her uniform. She leaned the mop against her own body, folded her hands together, and blew warm breath into the palms of her hands.
Da, da, da.
The sound of high-heeled shoes tapping on the ground drew near. On the silent rooftop, the sound sounded rather abrupt.
Sophia turned her head and saw a woman closing the entrance to the rooftop. The light at the rooftop entrance was very dim, hence she could not make out the woman’s face. All she could see was a rough figure.
She frowned and yelled at the woman, "Don't lock the door. I will lock it when I’m done cleaning this place up."
The woman simply raised her head and darted her a glance. She ignored her and continued to lock the door.
Sophia realized that something was amiss. She threw away the mop in her hands and strode toward the woman. "What are you doing?"
Seeing that she was running over, the woman moved much faster now. She quickly locked the door and bolted out of the place.
Sophia frowned and dashed to the door, pushing it with all her might. Unfortunately, the door did not budge. "Is anyone there? Can anyone hear me?
"Is anyone out there?
"Is anyone out there?!"
Sophia screamed at the top of her lungs for a very long time yet obtained no response in return. It made sense. Everyone had gotten off work at this point in time, so who would come to the rooftop apart from her and the woman earlier?
To make matters worse, her mobile phone had run out of battery. She had left it in the dormitory and did not carry it along with her at all.
There was a sudden gust of wind. It was slightly cold. Sophia sneezed and pulled her clothes tighter. The pool had yet to be cleaned, but she was not in the mood to clean anymore.
Her body was drained like a car that had run out of gas. All the energy in her body was spent. She pulled a chair and sat down.
The wind only grew violent each time. The faint sound of thunder in the distance could be heard. It seemed like it was about to rain.

The hour hand was pointing exactly to half-past one in the morning. Charles laid on the bed but was not feeling drowsy at all.
He stared at the ceiling in a daze. Since last night, Zachary and his mother's words had been flashing across his mind repeatedly.
"If you still can't forget Sophia, then think over your actions from now on. You will regret it sooner or later if you continue to offend others like that!"
"Charles, I don’t know what happened between you and Soph, but she will lose all her dignity if you throw her out naked like that. Aren’t you afraid that you will regret it in the future?"
Why did both Zachary and his mother say that he would regret it?
Did it look like he was smitten with Sophia? Was that what they thought?
He did not think that he was smitten with Sophia, though. She was just a pursuer who had been following him behind his back.
He was infuriated by her betrayal not because he liked her much, but because he disliked it when someone toyed with him, just like how he hated his dad toying with his mom.
How could he explain it, then, that though he felt nothing for other women, he wanted to possess her like crazy whenever she revealed the slightest amorous expression… Charles sat up, his irritability making him sweat.
He took off his pajamas, revealing his slender waist and broad, strong back. He went into the bathroom.
Charles took a shower and was still not drowsy. The thought earlier made him feel conflicted instead.
He frowned, went into the study, and took out a file. However, not a single word could enter his mind even after flipping through for a very long time. His mind was filled with thoughts about Sophia.
Charles threw the file on the desk irritably. He then picked up his phone and dialed a number that he had been dialing over the past two years.
"Cough… Cough, cough..." Sophia coughed twice with her hand covering her mouth, coughing out a lot of phlegm into her hands. She stretched out her hand, trying to wash it clean with the rain, but before she could wash it clean, she covered her mouth and started coughing again.
Uncomfortable.
Terribly uncomfortable.
Her heart was racing. Sophia gasped for air, attempting to draw in oxygen desperately like a fish exposed under the sun.
"Cough… Cough, cough, cough, cough, cough!" Sophia tried her best to stifle the coughs, but all her efforts were in vain. Her coughs were much more violent than before. The phlegm that she coughed out of her throat was stuck to the palms of her hands.
She opened up the palm of her hand and took a look at the pink-colored and foamy phlegm.
She was suffering from pulmonary edema that she had contracted in prison.
Sophia clutched her chest, knowing she might die just like that, but she was not afraid at all. She came out from under the table, staggered to the entrance of the rooftop, and shook the door. "Is..."
She stopped after shouting out a word, then sat more than one meter away from the door as she allowed the rain to pour on her head and flow down her body.
Finally, God had given her a chance to die a ‘natural death’. Why would she waste it?
She must have turned into a fool from being too tired that she went and hid under the table. She should have exposed herself to the rain from the beginning. Getting frozen to death or suffering a relapse was better than living without a purpose and getting tortured by Charles and Leah.
"Charles, cough... You’ve... Cough, cough, cough... Miscalculated..." Sophia tilted her head and looked at the dazzling night scene in the distance. Even though her body was hurting terribly, she was smiling an exceedingly dazzling smile.
If she died from her relapse, then she would not need to stay in this world and suffer anymore. Charles would have no excuse to make things difficult for Sterling either.
Ha, God was finally generous to her for once!
She was just unsure if humans would be reincarnated after they died. If so, she hoped that she would never reincarnate as a human. It was too painful to be one!
