(Audrey’s POV)
The tension in the air was suffocating. The peeling beige walls of the police station seemed to close in around me as we waited for Arthur to arrive.
Sarah sat quietly next to me, her arms folded, but I could feel the sharp tension radiating off her.
She hadn’t said much after admitting what she’d done, though her sharp glares at Victoria, seated across the room, were loud enough.
Victoria, on the other hand, was pacing dramatically, her clipped heels echoing on the tiled floor. Her heavily perfumed scent invaded my senses, irritating both me and my wolf.
Every now and then, she’d shoot venomous looks in our direction, her lips curled in disdain.
It wasn’t long before I felt it.
The undeniable presence of an Alpha entering the station.
Arthur arrived, his stride purposeful, his demeanor cold yet commanding. The officers and staff instinctively moved aside, their heads bowing slightly.
His dark eyes swept over the room, landing first on Victoria, then shifting briefly to me and Sarah.
The weight of his gaze made Grace shrink back within me, silently wary. Arthur wasn’t just angry-I could feel the restrained power roiling beneath his calm surface. His lips pressed into a thin line as he stopped in front of us.
“What,” his voice was sharp, controlled, but lethally low, “is going on here?”
Victoria seized the moment, immediately rushing to his side like a damsel in distress.
“She destroyed my car, Arthur!” she wailed, gesturing wildly towards Sarah. Her hands trembled theatrically, though I noticed her face twisted with smug satisfaction as she glanced at me. “It’s completely ruined! She-she just went crazy!”
Arthur’s gaze shifted back to Sarah. She arched a brow, entirely unfazed by the accusatory shriek.
“Did you?” Arthur asked bluntly, his voice completely devoid of emotion as his eyes bore into Sarah.
The corners of Sarah’s lips quirked up in a bitter smile. “Yes, I did,” she replied, her tone steady and sharp. “It felt… therapeutic smashing it, honestly.”
Victoria gasped dramatically, covering her mouth with a perfectly-manicured hand. “Therapeutic? You… you animal!”
Sarah ignored her, her sharp green eyes locking onto Arthur. “Go on, Alpha King. What now? Do you want Audrey to beg you and your… ‘mistress’ for forgiveness? Is that what you’re hoping for?”
Victoria’s face turned scarlet. “Don’t you dare-“
Sarah cut her off, her voice growing louder. “What? You don’t like the truth? That’s surprising, considering how much you flaunt yourself.”
Arthur sighed deeply, pinching the bridge of his nose. His silence was deliberate. I could tell he wasn’t going to entertain their bickering for long.
He finally spoke again, his voice firm. “We’re not here to argue. We’re here to resolve this.”
Victoria turned towards him, clutching his arm. “Arthur, she has to pay for this! That was my car! My property!”
I flinched internally at her emphasis on “my property.”
Arthur fixed her with a cool stare, extracting himself from her grasp. “And where do you suppose this ends, Victoria?”
Her lips parted in shock. “What do you mean? You’re not going to punish her?”
He crossed his arms, the harsh lines of his jaw making his words cut even deeper. “No, I’m not. It’s just a car. Get a new one.”
Victoria blinked, stunned by his dismissive tone. “Arthur, are you serious? This isn’t just about the car-it’s about respect!”
His voice darkened, his authority undeniable. “If we’re going to talk about respect, perhaps we should discuss your behavior earlier at the therapy center.”
The color drained from her face.
“You know very well what I’m referring to,” Arthur continued, unflinching. “You attacked Audrey and created unnecessary tension in my pack.”
Victoria stumbled over her words, her confidence faltering. Her eyes darted toward me, fury and panic mingling in her gaze.
“Arthur! What about her?” Victoria shrieked, pointing at me as if it would change the conversation. “She’s just your… temporary mate! You’re going to sever your bond for me-“
Arthur’s head whipped toward her, his expression hardening instantly. “Enough.”
Before she could say anything else, he cut through her protests with a look that silenced the room. I couldn’t mask my surprise at the sharp shift in his tone.
“I decide what happens in this pack,” he said coldly. “Audrey is my mate. She always will be.”
The words hung heavy in the air. Everyone seemed stunned into silence. My breath hitched, my mind struggling to process what he had just declared.
