Leo's POV:
It was far past midnight by the time she finally fell asleep and I could lay next to her gently stroking her soft blond hair as she breathed gently in a heavy slumber.
She'd never admit it but I knew I'd scared her earlier.
I could tell by the way her eyes fixated on the blood and how she couldn't look me in the eye for long, desperate to get away from me.
Part of my wolf had wanted to comfort her.
Because I wanted to see her happy but until she stops threatening my reputation, I had to make her fear me. For everyone's benefit.
After the delay for her to officially become my Luna, her stunt at the ball, the flyers and the release of half the junior institute, rumours had been spreading and my competency questioned.
Only my father had dared to voice it so far but I knew many of my men were thinking it.
And my enemies too.
So I have to do it.
I have to take her down to where the Luna has always been: underneath the Alpha.
And to do that, to force her to submit, she has to fear me. It is the only way.
My biggest regret is not getting that fierceness out of her sooner. It would have been far less painful for us both to do it weeks ago. But I kind of liked the fiery sarcasm and strong personality so I let it stay. But as I let my fondness cloud my reason, it festered and grew and bit away at my reputation and now here we are in this difficult situation.
But it isn't an unachievable goal. No matter how iron-willed and stubborn she is, she's still just a girl and only a 17-year old one too. There is no way I will lose this battle.
