Sadie.
Alec doesn’t say a word as he storms out of the ballroom with me thrown over his damn shoulder like some primitive beast.
Gasps and murmurs echo behind us, but he doesn’t slow down. His grip is iron, his body trembling with fury—no, not fury. Something deeper. Something that claws under my skin and lights up my veins… Jealousy.
Outside, the cold night air hits my bare skin, my legs dangling down his chest.
I punch his back. “Alec, put me down!”
He ignores me. Of course he does. His jaw is locked so tight I can see the muscle twitch from upside-down.
I curse him. Curse the pack. Curse Lola. Curse the goddess, but nothing. He doesn’t put me down.
“Where are you taking me?” I scream, trying to get him to talk. He doesn’t.
I pound his back. “I swear if you don’t put me down, I’ll fry your fucking ass.”
Instead of getting the reaction I wanted, I get a spank that leaves me questioning why I chose to go down this route.
I could easily get out of his grip if I wanted to, but I was curious to know where he was talking, though I already had a pretty good idea.
By the time he kicks open the cabin door, his whole body vibrates with something feral. He sets me down so abruptly that I stumble but he steadies me instantly, fingers burning where they grip my arms.
His chest is rising and falling too fast.
“What the fuck was that?” he growls, voice raw.
I lift my chin. “You tell me.”
His eyes flash. “Don’t play with me, Sadie… What the hell was that with Cassius?”
“Don’t fucking growl at me!” I snap, stepping closer, letting the words cut.
Another growl leaves his lips, though this one is a bit more silent.
He glares. “Why did you kiss him?”
“Because I wanted to,” I spit back. “Because it felt good.”
He flinches like I slapped him. Knox roars in his eyes, the sound leaking through our bond.
“You’re lying,” he whispers, as if the truth might kill him.
“Oh? You suddenly know what I feel now?” I laugh, cold and cruel. “How about you answer something for me, Alec? How did you feel watching another man touch me?”
His composure snaps.
“Fucking awful,” he snarls, moving closer until I’m forced to step back. “Like my heart was being ripped out of my chest. Like I was losing you all over again.”
“Good,” I whisper.
He stares at me, breath unsteady. “Good?”
Alec staggers back half a step, as if bracing for impact.
“What else have you done with him?” he asks, and I can see he’s doing everything to keep himself from losing control.
I hesitate a little because I’m not sure I should tell him.
“Tell me!” he snaps.
I swallow, “He was my fuck buddy up to a few months before you came to my pack.”
The word hits him like a fist and he actually closes his eyes, pain wrinkling the edges.
His eyes slice open, wild, devastated and disbelieving.
“You’re lying,” he rasps. “Please tell me you’re lying.”
“Why would I lie?”
His jaw clenches, breathing ragged. “Because you’re trying to hurt me.”
I walk closer, intentionally cruel. “By lying to you? No, I don’t work like that… We met after some vampires from his clan tried making trouble for us when we were starting out. We managed to sort it out, but in the process, we made a different kind of deal. I had needs, Alec, so he became my fuck mate.”
That fucking snaps him.
His hands slam to my waist, and my back hits the wall so hard the picture frame rattles. His breath ghosts across my lips, his eyes burning with agony and want and something even uglier… Possession. His eyes flick down to my mouth and something inside him explodes. He crashes his mouth onto mine.
