Soon, the dishes arrived, and they chatted as they ate. 

“How’s college going? Are you settling in okay? Did you save my number? If you need anything, just give me a call.” Since they lived away from family, he felt they needed to support and look out for each other. 

“It’s alright. I’ve run into a few issues, but I can handle them myself,” Miranda said. 

“That’s good to hear. Enjoy your food,” Jack encouraged with a smile. 

Midway through their meal, his phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen and said, “Mimi, go ahead and eat. I’ll take this call outside.” 

“Sure.” 

Five minutes later, Jack returned and sat across from her again. 

Miranda immediately sensed something was off. “Jack eat your food.” 

He looked dazed for a moment before nodding. “Oh! Right!” He tried to maintain a smile, but it seemed 

forced. 

Miranda put down her fork and knife. “What’s wrong?” 

At her words, his eyes turned red. “Honestly, I just don’t get these clients. We had everything nailed down and contracts signed. Plus, we put so much time and effort into it. So, why do they suddenly change their minds? 

“Don’t they understand what a contract means? Don’t they respect the hard work others put into this? 

“Maybe it’s my fault. I haven’t adjusted to the harsh competition and don’t fully understand the market.” His righteous anger slowly faded into sheer frustration. 

Miranda said, “If they broke the contract, That’s a pretty good deal, right?”
