The rest of the team handled the camp, making it more defensible while Althea also prepared herself.
"Will it really be alright?" Someone asked Garan in concern.
"I’m feeling a bit bad you’re getting so deeply involved," Beru said. This was more than just rescuing slaves in a village. They were capable people from the City, after all.
The reason they were being so low-key was because they had detected some anomalous existances in the area. They did not want to alert them too much, especially not associate the rescue with their City.
This meant that this mission could have other variables they had not considered before.
But when they thought about it, they also thought that someone with a flexible mind and strong enough strength like Lady Althea was also the perfect candidate for this. This was in stark contrast with people who only knew brute force, i.e. the rest of them.
Warrior City people were inherently war-like. If trouble came, or an unexpected challenge appeared, they’d likely handle it without finesse.
The key, of course, was that Althea wouldn’t be discovered early. Even if she did get discovered, she had to have found enough information.
"She’s already level 26, isn’t she?" another asked. "Wouldn’t the Lord notice?"
"Assuming the Lord checks, or assigns people to chec, even her triple element would get attention."
Orcs and half-orcs were strong, but they leveled up slowly. A person above level 20 suddenly entering would definitely alert people. Although she would be adopting the identity of a new slave, it would still gather a lot of attention on her, forcing her to limit her movements.
There was also the possibility that their leadership would want to recruit her instead, but it remained to be seen whether this was a good thing.
Lady Althea was a female elementalist, after all.
Thinking about it now made them regret allowing this. The more they pondered, the more they wanted to stop her.
Garan shook his head. "They wouldn’t notice," he said with confidence, but he did not explain how they were going to do it.
The Token Mask was a top-secret tool that not many people knew about. It was one of their hidden cards, after all, and revealing it to outsiders—even if they were good people—wouldn’t serve them any good.
His tone was certain and dismissive, so the others could only let it be.
Some time later, Althea emerged from a tent, looking like a different person.
The men flinched when they saw her. They knew she was Althea, but somehow they could no longer recognize her.
Althea, who was the epitome of grace and beauty, was now filled with scars and birthmarks on her face. Her attire was also loose and dirty, some with holes. The contrast was really heartbreaking!
They gasped, several people immediately coming to her with grave concern.
"What...what happened to you, milady?"
"Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"
"Would you like some help?"
And so on...
