After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World novel Chapter 1943

Chapter 1943: Against Trebuchets

Besston’s side had seen relative success this time. Most of the sentries they needed to take down were taken down, and while the wall itself hadn’t buckled, with having few working sentries, it might as well be.

Otto and Olga rushed here and helped defend, but they could only focus on taking down the projectiles that were now dropping on the houses and the population. For people below level 20, getting hit by this was lethal. They also had to deal with the enemy powerhouses going in.

BANG!

BANG!

All sides of the battlements had fighters, but the powerhouses headed straight to where the nearest leaks were. Or at least where they were about to be created.

There were only two areas being attacked by the sentries with intact walls. One side was guarded by Zaol and two of his sons, and the other side had Gregory and Mattheo from Holt, as well as several others.

One of the reasons why Balthazar insisted on investing so much money in leasing so many trebuchets was precisely to gather the powerhouses in specific areas. Even if the actual dismantling of the walls took a while, it didn’t matter. The real goal was to keep the powerhouses away from the most sensitive areas.

If they were busy, then teams like Waran’s could enter with more ease, damaging the inner parts of the territory, targeting the people who were actually important.

At some point, when Alterra’s cannons managed to cause sufficient damage to an area near the enemy trebuchets, Gregor took this as his chance to go on the offensive.

However, it was still not easy, because Alterra wasn’t the only one with City-level forces there.

There was at least one level 45-50 person, mostly from the city, guarding one trebuchet! This meant that if there was a trio of trebuchets, as was the case in Gregor’s area, then there could be a handful of people at this level dedicated to guarding the weapons!

Another one of their tasks was to make sure the tool returned to Hassen in one piece, and also to ensure their side’s victory.

So, when Gregory rushed over, he had to deal with at least four powerhouses. Mattheo rushed over to help out, helping defend him against the other powerhouses there.

BANG!

SLAM!

BANG!

The battles between level 50s and above were naturally not peaceful. A small area would be swept away by the casting of a single skill.

And Gregor, since he was outside the territory, did not hold back.

[Wind Wall]

"AHHH!"

[Sky Rend]

"GAHHH!"

As long as the projectile went through a dwarven trebuchet, it would have an extra penetration effect! The concept was similar to how Elementalist attacks could cause more damage to equipment! Even if it just fell down, even if it was at a low height, it was actually still useful.

Some projectiles missed altogether, so now there were plenty of rocks next to the loose sentries that did not even touch the walls!

Mattheo would throw a large ice spear near the trebuchet, finally impaling one of the operators. It wasn’t one of the powerhouses, but at least one of the trebuchets—even if just for a while—wouldn’t churn out another projectile.

Gregor did the same to another trebuchet. So, for now, the risk of their part of the wall falling as the others had dipped down.

On the contrary, now that the projectiles had lessened, they could focus on handling the enemy powerhouses, and another set of terrifying attacks was exchanged.

The powerhouses cursed, sending skill after skill, too, not believing the enemy would be fine after their onslaught.

Unfortunately for them, whenever Gregor and they were in trouble, they would just jump back to within the sentries’ scopes, suddenly gaining assistance from the sentries! They’d avoid the enemies until they recovered, drinking potions or eating food while sending out hits.

Later, it would be similar to a wheel battle. If Gregor or Mattheo needed to have a rest, someone else or a team would take their place to cause chaos, eventually disabling the trebuchets so they would no longer be threats to this side.

This was for later. For now, there were still replacement operators to keep the tools running, and the enemy powerhouses were still alive and well to protect them. For now, the attackers were just annoyed at the interference.

They glared at Gregor and Metteo, annoyed at their ’cowardice’ of prolonging the fight. "DAMNIT!"
