Of course, they did not forget to prepare the territory itself, improving the already existing infrastructure. While it was miles ahead of its peers, there was no such thing as over-preparation.
For one, they prepared the tunnels well.
These tunnels were already lined with extra insulation from the extreme heat, and they only had to add heating sources, as well as make the places more airtight.
Unlike in the houses, the prismatic moss was already thriving there.
As subterranean plants, they were even healthier when planted in the underground farm. Like those in the houses, they would be used to provide oxygen, which was ample in this case.
The underground farms and the tunnel system were connected and would just have a metallic door whenever they wanted them blocked again, dividing them into sectors in cases of breaches, so there had to be self-sustaining farms in each section, just in case.
The guards were also trained specifically on how to handle cold-related emergencies like hypothermia, frostbite, and so on. Their spaces all had first aid kits already, including warming patches, heating tablets, and so on, with a few more things added in.
Emergency cold kits would also be prepared, given to guards as well as certain evacuation houses, families with a lot of kids/elderly, for free.
These would just be basic heating items like a small lamp, gloves, bonnet, socks, including sustenance items like food bars, diluted warming drinks, heat packs, and so on that could fit in a small bag and easily fit in the space.
Sadly, they didn’t have the time to provide these to a hundred thousand people, but they should be enough for the kids and the elderly.
The clinics would also be kept open, as well as the hospitals. The challenge was how to ensure the way there would be clear.
While they had powerhouses who could carry people, it wasn’t sustainable and could also get dangerous for them. They’d want problems handled as efficiently as possible.
So, clearing roads became one of the problems under the Research Center’s machinery team (under Eugene) challenge. I.e. they were now building snow plows.
This would be done using medieval technology because they still didn’t have enough to create a powerful enough engine to carry and move something so big.
They’d still be using broats (protected against the weather of course), but the technology for the machinery itself would be designed for efficiency and speed.
The fire users were also doing special exercises to prolong their abilities. Worst comes to worst, they’d just drag their fire users to warm people up!
They might only have a few days to prepare for such a big thing, but the Elders and the citizens would make sure that Alterra could be as prepared as it could be!
...
A few days later, Zabon Town
"Only another hour left to go, yea?" Sebo, the Lord of Zabon Town, asked his advisor, who was staring at their sundial.
"That again?" the Lord asked, groaning. This advisor of his had been speaking of this repeatedly. Fortunately, he had the sense not to say it outside the room, or he’d have him whipped for reducing momentum unnecessarily!
However, the Lord was so taken by the products and the fact that both Valov and Twinwave had anything to do with it to listen to his reason.
This was because the Lord was a bit insecure. After all, Zabon Town had been a Town for more than a hundred years, but it had been stuck at Tier 2 for half of that.
The Lord was already in his mid-90s, but only in level 41, which was below average for town lords his age.
Although his lifespan was still a few decades left, he was naturally a bit impatient to see the Town progress and upgrade in his lifetime, especially since he hadn’t experienced any of that despite his long life (when the Town upgraded to level 2, he was not yet born).
It so happened that they got news that Valov was planning to take over Alterra for themselves soon, "very certain" of their victory, and their own Lord quickly jumped at the chance.
However, it would not be like Valov to be involved so openly. Its style was usually more underhanded than that, which made Ulric suspicious. The effects of the Voumi-Flaret Town were also still fresh, so Uric was naturally quite nervous.
"We will be attacking soon, Uric!" the Lord said. "There is no going back! We’re taking that arrogant new town under our wings!"
"Besides, aren’t they weak from the recent upgrade beast mob? They upgraded too fast as well. I heard that most of their elders are not even level 30!!"
Uric bit his lips. Indeed, it wasn’t entirely a careless decision. If he wanted to attack a newly upgraded town, the best time was really as soon as it was upgraded.
But... why couldn’t he shake the feeling of concern?
