Currently, most of the missions in the Mercenary Hall were escort missions. In other places, the mission could be material gathering, protection missions, maybe even assassination missions (though often masked as another mission), guarding missions, and so on.
In Alterra, these jobs didn’t need a job out. For the usual uses of mercenaries, the local forces were often enough.
People preferred to gather their own materials (unless it was specially difficult to procure, like what the alchemists wanted, and those required high-level mercenary teams), and those who needed to be protected in Alterra had their own capable guards.
In this sense, it would feel like mercenaries had fewer job opportunities in Alterra. However, the actual situation said otherwise.
The guarding missions could be started by visitors, and there was a vibrant tourism industry in Alterra. They could also be guides and helpers.
The most prominent jobs were escort assignments heading to and from territories. Soon, there would be missions from far away asking to be escorted to Alterra.
In those cases, Alterrans who had a map and knew how to go back to Alterra were at an advantage.
After their stint with Voumi and Flaret, there were actually a few towns that asked for this. For example, Hubble Town, and a few other level 2 towns that were not a few countries away.
Like this, more and more home-grown and official mercenary teams were also forming.
This was funded by more powerful teams, of course, and a week after the Hall was erected, three homegrown teams were created.
Considering there were also teams that were created months prior via the Ferrol Mercenary Hall, there were now a total of 6 Alterran Mercenary Teams! Except for the Terran Mercenary Team, though, they were all Class E.
Some of these teams were quite excited and had already begun to plan their first missions! Of course, because the landing place would always be a Level 2 Town and above, there was a recommended level requirement before people went out at all.
While Alterra didn’t block people from heading out as they wanted, they naturally didn’t lack in the reminders for them not to be too arrogant.
For the most part, these people only took missions from the nearby Level 3 Town of Ferrol, which was the only territory they could access at Class E.
Fortunately, Valov town was a few hundred kilometers beyond this distance. Otherwise, they feared some brave souls would’ve gone there.
Anyway, the teams excitedly took various missions that they were qualified for. After taking a mission, they could withhold teleportation for a day as long as it was a mutual agreement with the employer.
Interestingly, not too far in the future, because the mercenaries would always fill their spaces with good food, often sharing some with their employers as a gesture of goodwill, some people would even specify ’must be Alterran’ in their mission descriptions.
If they had been able to join a C-Class mercenary team, they would’ve been able to reduce their trip to a few weeks, rather than months, but alas.
They lived in a Level 1 Town called Bwaya Town. It didn’t have its own Hall yet, so they would be transporting bit by bit, and definitely on foot on the last leg of the trip. Rather, they would probably go on foot more often than not since there were only so many level 2 towns in the world.
The reason they had only done this now was that their town was too far away and could not be seen on their maps (only arrows).
Fortunately, after the takeover of Flaret and Voumi, Alterra also managed to set up reliable information hubs in the areas. Not only were the Post Offices maximized, the main associated towns also had their own ports for the messenger birds.
About a week ago, they found out that their Town was around 9000 kilometers Northwest of Alterra (courtesy of one of the merchants interrogated, er, interviewed in Voumi), which was just within the scope of a C-Class Mercenary Team.
They also managed to map out some villages and towns in the northern area, far from Flaret. This was due to the merchants passing through, many of whom were heading to the Terran region on purpose.
This was another effect of Alterra Regions’ new resounding reputation. A lot of caravans were congregating in their direction, and this meant a lot of information could be bought off!
Still, their home was too far away to actually know all the Level 2 towns in between, but it’s a start!
