Harold showed up at the door holding a bouquet of flowers.
When Susan caught sight of the flowers, she couldn’t help but think, Ethan had come by to apologize and didn’t even bother to bring so much as a single flower. Then again, she reminded herself, Isabella wouldn’t accept anything from him now anyway. That thought made Susan sigh all over again.
“Is Isabella up?” Harold asked, his voice gentle.
“She’s in the kitchen making you breakfast,” Susan replied. “She said she promised you a home-cooked meal, so she’s cooking it herself.”
Harold grinned. “Lucky me.”
He started walking toward the main house. Susan closed the gate and jogged to catch up with him. “Stephanie’s inside,” she told him.
“And I’m guessing Ethan’s there too?”
Harold didn’t even have to think about it.
“Stephanie brought Ethan so he could apologize for last night. He was really out of line.”
Harold just nodded and said nothing else.
Inside, he spotted Ethan and Stephanie in the living room. He greeted them with a warm smile.
Stephanie smiled back. “Harold, you made it.”
“Yeah. Isabella said she’s making me breakfast today. She’s actually cooking it herself,” Harold said, putting a little extra emphasis on those last words.
Ethan felt a pang of jealousy twist in his stomach. He didn’t need to ask to know Susan was the one who’d made his breakfast. But Harold… Isabella was in the kitchen just for him. She really must like this guy.
