After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 510

“I really hoped you and Isabella would end up happy together, but I guess that’s not going to happen,” Stephanie said, her voice softer than usual.

“After the divorce, don’t go messing around with other girls. Until you’ve truly moved on from Natalie, don’t even think about getting married again. If you’re really that hung up on her, then just stay single for the rest of your life.” She let out a long sigh, but then her tone shifted, lighter somehow. “Good thing you’re not my only grandson. Your cousins will get married and have babies, so I’ll still have great-grandkids to hold. I’m not expecting anything from you anymore.”

Ethan frowned. “Grandma, you’re just giving up on me? I’m already trying to get over Natalie. If Isabella hadn’t pushed for this, I never would’ve wanted a divorce. As long as we were together, I honestly thought I could fall in love with her.”

“I could have been the husband you wanted,” he added quietly. “But now, everyone’s supporting the divorce. No one’s on my side.”

Stephanie looked at him straight on. “You really have the nerve to complain after all this? You’ve acted like a jerk and still don’t want to let go?”

“If you ever actually fall for Isabella, you can try to win her back. But honestly, I don’t think you stand much of a chance. You’ll probably just have to watch her marry someone else.”

“Maybe marriage just isn’t for you. Even if you get married, you end up divorced. Our family’s big and well off, and you have so many cousins. We’ll just have one of your nephews take care of you when you’re old.”

Ethan just stared at her. He was only thirty, and his grandma was already planning out who’d look after him when he was old.

He could have his own kid. He didn’t need to adopt. No matter how close, a nephew would never be the same as his own child. Even having a daughter was better than raising someone else’s kid. There was no way he’d let that happen.

“Grandma, can’t you say something nice about me for once?”

“How could I? You’ve closed off every path for yourself. It’s not that I don’t want to think well of you, but you make it impossible. Even if I tried, I couldn’t fool myself.”
