Jesse nodded. “If there’s no one working behind the scenes, those guys don’t stand a chance. They’ll get caught eventually.”

There were too many people looking for the kidnappers. There was nowhere left for them to hide. The only thing that would have made this worse would be if someone powerful was helping them, covering their tracks or even silencing them for good.

“How’s Isabella? Is she feeling any better today?” Harold switched gears, his tone softer as he brought up Isabella. He knew Jesse had just come back from the hospital. Jesse had gone early that morning to bring Laura some flowers. Whether or not Laura accepted them, he’d planned to go with her to the hospital.

“She’s a lot better today. She’s even up and moving around. Ethan isn’t there anymore. Cynthia’s with her now, and Laura stayed after she got there.”

“Her injuries aren’t too bad. The kidnappers ended up worse off than she did. The one who got hurt the most still hasn’t even woken up yet.”

“She’s tough. Honestly, I think she’ll be out of the hospital in less than a week.”
