Harold beamed at the news. "I'm always in for a treat when I come here. Whether you or Cynthia are cooking, the food is always incredible. Honestly, I think I've put on a few pounds just from eating breakfast with you all every weekend."
Ethan rolled his eyes, mentally scoffing. *What a kiss-ass.*
Amelia and Cynthia were decent cooks, but Harold was a billionaire accustomed to Michelin-starred dining. To hear him praise a simple home-cooked meal like it was a gourmet masterpiece was nauseating.
But the real sting was knowing Isabella was cooking for him. In the past, Isabella used to spend hours in the kitchen preparing his favorite meals, carefully packing nutrient-rich soups to deliver to his office. Harold had never experienced that level of devotion from her. The thought brought a small, bitter sense of satisfaction to Ethan's chest. Isabella had loved him deeply once—arguably more than she loved Harold now.
"Make sure you eat plenty then," Amelia laughed warmly. Then, her smile faded slightly as she turned her attention to Ethan. "Mr. Adams, your health is still fragile. You really shouldn't be wandering around so much. You need to be resting in bed."
"Isabella has the day off today, so I wanted to see her," Ethan replied smoothly, ignoring the hint. He held up the bouquet. "I cut these fresh from my garden this morning. I wanted to bring them over to brighten her day."
Amelia glanced guiltily at Harold before looking back at Ethan, letting out a defeated sigh. She stepped aside to let him pass. "She's just going to yell at you the second she sees you."
Harold appreciated her reassurance. The jealousy had definitely been gnawing at him.
"I trust Isabella completely, Amelia," Harold smiled gently. "I know it's not her. It's just him being shameless. I can tell the difference."
Harold knew the truth. Aside from the day Ethan was discharged, Isabella had barely given him the time of day. When she wasn't working herself to the bone, she was spending her free time with Harold. Thinking about that made his lingering annoyance vanish completely.
