After ending the call, Frank lowered his phone and let out a heavy sigh. "She's already moved on with a new romance, and he's still trapped in the past. What a mess."
First, he had barely crawled out of the wreckage with Natalie, only to dive headfirst into the impossible depths of trying to win back Isabella. Frank was convinced Ethan must have owed both women a massive karmic debt in a past life.
Meanwhile, at the Gates Family estate, Adelina was furious. When the butler informed her that her daughter had returned home, her heart ached with worry, but when she rushed out to the courtyard, Natalie was nowhere to be seen.
"Didn't you say she was back?" Adelina demanded, her brows knitting together. "Where is she?"
"She headed straight to the Secondary Gates Estate," the butler replied quickly. "She said she needed to speak with Willa."
Adelina let out a frustrated noise and marched down the steps, making a beeline for her brother-in-law's property. Natalie was supposed to be on strict bed rest. Running around in her weakened condition could cause permanent damage to her health. She needed to give the girl a piece of her mind.
As she approached the secondary estate, she spotted Natalie's car parked out front. The butler from the main house had already texted the staff at the secondary estate to warn them of Adelina's arrival.
"Ma'am," the estate manager greeted her respectfully as she walked through the doors.
"Where is my daughter?"
"She's upstairs in Willa's room. She asked for her the moment she arrived," the manager answered truthfully.
It was York's brilliant, twisted plan. They would bribe the old couple into orchestrating a fatal 'accident' for Isabella. Once Isabella was dead, York would arrange a car crash to silence the proxy, completely severing the trail back to Natalie and Willa.
Natalie was fully committed to York's advice. If Isabella died, Ethan's attention would inevitably return to her. Isabella had stolen everything that was rightfully hers, and Natalie wanted her dead.
Berenice was suffering from terminal cancer, and the George family was drowning in medical debts. They were desperate, suffocating under the financial strain, but none of them wanted to drain their own savings for a dying woman. Yet, out of societal expectation, they couldn't just pull the plug.
They needed a scapegoat. They needed Isabella's money. And if Isabella refused to pay up, her grandparents would make her life a living hell. They were the perfect weapons.
