Aside from taking down York, she had no desire to rely on Ethan for anything else. She wanted to keep her distance as much as possible.
Ethan's voice carried a bitter edge. "Do I really not even get a chance to help you?"
"Ethan, Harold and I are officially together."
"You're just dating. You aren't married yet, and I know you haven't slept with him. You're a traditional woman at heart. You'd never move in with a man without a ring on your finger."
"As long as you're not married, I still have a chance."
Isabella hung up without another word.
She had zero interest in discussing her love life with him.
In this lifetime, their story was permanently over.
Staring at the disconnected screen, Ethan let out a heavy sigh.
If it weren't for York's impending threat, she probably wouldn't have called him at all. No, it was only because he had experienced those prophetic dreams.
Were those visions just a warning, or a reality that had already played out?
If it was real, why didn't he remember living it?
He couldn't shake the feeling that Isabella was guarding a massive secret. She hadn't breathed a word of it to anyone—not her mother, not her best friend.
And whatever she was hiding, it was directly tied to his dreams.
Despite her rejection, Ethan quickly fired off texts to Jeremy and Frank, instructing them to step in if Isabella ever needed help.
Jeremy replied instantly: 'Don't worry. If Isabella says the word, we've got her back.'
But they all knew she wouldn't come to them. She had Harold now.
The Carter family was just as powerful as the Adams Group, and Harold was every bit Ethan's equal.
She also had Linda in her corner. And if Linda couldn't handle something, the entire White Family and their fifteen influential heirs would step up.
He also tasked Keith with the heavy lifting of the actual investigation.
"You got it," Frank replied.
Even without Ethan's orders, half the city's elite were already watching York. Frank was no exception.
A newcomer making waves, throwing cash around, and attending every major gala without established business roots in Cabinda made everyone nervous. They were trying to figure out his angle before getting burned.
"He might try to pull something shady against Isabella."
Frank paused before responding. "I don't think he wants to hurt her. I think he's into her. He sent a mountain of gifts to her house yesterday, making sure everyone saw it."
"She wasn't home, so Cynthia had to deal with it."
Ethan immediately defended his former mother-in-law. "York forces his gifts on people. Cynthia couldn't have stopped him even if she tried. Susan saw the whole thing go down."
"Just keep tabs on him. Don't ask questions. I'll handle the rest."
