Isabella inspected the gifts. She found the cards, but they were unsigned, and the messages were printed rather than handwritten.
Cynthia asked with concern, "Isabella, did you provoke someone else?"
"Mom, Harold and I are official now. How could I possibly provoke anyone else? No one else is pursuing me anyway."
Besides Harold.
Perhaps right after the divorce, when Ethan and Harold were pursuing her simultaneously, no one dared to compete with the two CEOs. Aside from those two, she hadn't had a third suitor.
"Then who sent you all these things?"
Isabella thought for a moment before saying, "Mom, I have a guess. I'll go find him tomorrow."
Pausing, she added, "He suddenly sent me all these gifts probably because he wanted to force me to meet him."
York!
Aside from that man, she couldn't think of anyone else who would spend so lavishly and send gifts in such an aggressive manner.
"Who is he?"
Cynthia's face was etched with worry.
"Are you going to find him alone? Will it be dangerous? If Harold finds out, will he misunderstand? Isabella, you and Harold are deeply in love. You need to trust each other. He is a man you can rely on for the rest of your life."
"I think you should tell Harold about this. Don't go seeing other men behind his back."
"Mom, I'm afraid of dragging Harold into this. If my guess is right, the person who sent these is York, the man who made a high-profile entrance in Cabinda, claiming he was going to invest in massive business ventures here."
"He's very mysterious. Many people have looked into his background, but no one can find any useful information. What they do find is only what York allows them to know. In reality, he isn't a businessman. Or rather, he isn't a legitimate businessman."
"He's... he might be involved in the underworld, and the deeply powerful kind at that. When people like that operate for a long time, they start investing in various industries, trying to go legitimate to launder their identities."
"But deep in their bones, they still have that ruthless streak."
Cynthia was deeply worried hearing this. "How did you provoke a man like that?"
She was no longer Mrs. Lane now. She spent her days at home gardening, and even when she went out, it was only to meet up with a few ladies she used to be close with, or to go on road trips with her brother and his wife.
She didn't interact much with big executives anymore. If her daughter hadn't come home and mentioned it, she truly wouldn't have known about many things happening in the local business world.
