Isabella stared at him, exasperated.
Seeing her reaction, Ethan looked pathetic. "I'm still weak. I have to be fed. If it's not my mom, it's my grandmother. I'm just helpless, I'm not trying to take advantage of you."
Helping him drink water wasn't taking advantage.
Isabella sighed inwardly. She got up, poured a glass of warm water, and sat on the edge of the bed. Supporting his upper body with one arm, she brought the glass to his lips.
Ethan hadn't expected her to actually take care of him.
Did she still care?
She had loved him so deeply before. Could she really just let go of all those feelings in six short months?
"Don't overthink it," she said, noticing his gaze. "I have a lot of questions for you. You're going to have to do a lot of talking, and I don't want your throat to give out. That's why I'm giving you water."
"We're divorced. I'm Harold's girlfriend now."
"We're never getting back together."
The light in Ethan's eyes dimmed.
"You won't even let me dream," he muttered, sounding wronged.
"Are you going to drink or not? If not, I'm dropping you."
Isabella gave him a stern look.
"I'll drink. I'm drinking."
Ethan quickly took a gulp.
The once arrogant, high-and-mighty Mr. Adams was now reduced to this pitiful state, needing help just to drink water. Isabella's expression softened slightly.
Once he finished, she set the glass down and carefully eased him back against the pillows. Seeing him wince, she immediately asked, "Did you pull your stitches?"
"I'm fine. I can handle it. Today is much better than the last two days. Before, just shifting my weight made it feel like my internal organs were being crushed. My external wounds hurt like hell, too."
He wasn't exaggerating for pity. It truly hurt.
Isabella cut straight to the chase.
She needed to know what role York played in his premonitions.
Ethan recalled everything from his alternate reality and detailed it to her. He explained everything, even recounting the grim fates of Jordan and Natalie. When he had first woken from his coma, Isabella hadn't asked about their ending.
She had claimed she didn't care about him anymore, so she didn't need to know.
But from his expression alone, she had guessed the outcome. Discovering Natalie's true colors must have been a devastating blow to him.
"So, York was caught because of you? And you tracked him down to get justice for me?"
Ethan nodded.
"Not just York. His entire syndicate was taken down. In the dream, York never directly hurt us, but he committed countless atrocities. He was the true underworld kingpin, with a lot of blood on his hands."
"He just had powerful protectors, making him untouchable to the average person."
