Ruining Deborah's reputation was exactly what Natalie wanted.
Did Deborah think marrying into the Lane family automatically made her Mrs. Lane and gave her a golden ticket into high society? Keep dreaming!
Who would ever associate with Deborah now?
She was a toxic monster.
And a mistress who had wormed her way to the top.
The elite women of high society despised mistresses more than anything.
Cynthia had been a legitimate, respectable partner who had spent twenty years as Mrs. Lane, and even she had struggled to integrate into the upper-crust social circles.
With Deborah's background as a homewrecker, everyone was bound to view her through a prejudiced lens.
Having achieved her goal, Natalie allowed herself to look perfectly pathetic and utterly heartbroken as her parents and husband guided her out of the hotel.
Today's spectacle was guaranteed to be the headline of tomorrow's entertainment news.
Deborah was destined to become the universal target of scorn—a toxic stepmother and an evil mother-in-law despised by all.
Having watched the entire drama unfold, Isabella and her mother left before the banquet even officially started.
Stepping out of the hotel, Isabella turned to her mother. "Mom, thank God you chose to divorce him and didn't get dragged into this mess. Jackson is far too biased. From now on, the Lane family is going to be an absolute nightmare. Scenes like today's will just become part of their daily routine."
This was the karma for being unfaithful to a marriage and a family.
"That was his choice. It has nothing to do with us. Isabella, are you coming home with me or going with Harold?"
Cynthia felt a profound sense of relief seeing her ex-husband's wedding turn into a public joke.
"Mom, Harold and I are planning to go check on Ethan. He should be doing a little better by now."
Isabella had promised Ethan she would visit him this weekend.
Knowing Isabella would never return to Ethan gave Harold all the reassurance he needed.
"That makes sense," Cynthia nodded. "Go see him, and send him my regards. Tell him to focus on his recovery—health is the most important thing."
"We will. Mom, head straight home and drive safely. Just shoot us a text when you get back."
"I'm not a child, and it's barely a ten-minute drive. Are you two driving there, or taking the train or a flight? Make sure you text me when you arrive so I know you're safe."
Ever since Ethan's accident, Cynthia couldn't help but endlessly remind her daughter to be careful and stay safe whenever she traveled.
"We're taking the train," Harold replied. "The station isn't too far. Driving to the airport would take two hours, which is just too far out of the way."
Isabella chimed in, "Don't worry, Mom. Harold is with me, I'll be fine. I've already booked the train tickets. It leaves at noon, so Harold and I are heading to the station now."
"Aren't you going to eat something first?"
"We can eat on the train. It won't be too late." She had booked first-class tickets, which included meal service.
