Harold arrived. He came to accompany Isabella, worried she might be taken advantage of.
Isabella was there to accompany her mother.
The last Mrs. Lane actually showing up to her ex-husband's wedding was an eye-catching event in itself. When many guests saw Cynthia appear, they looked ready for a good show.
"Cynthia, you're here."
The moment Jackson saw Cynthia, he immediately ditched the crowd and hurried over to her.
Since the divorce, the two rarely saw each other.
Jackson had been busy acting lovey-dovey with his new wife, mediating the endless drama between her and his eldest son's family. He was running in circles every day, often stressed to the point of migraines.
He didn't have the energy to keep tabs on his ex-wife, but it was true that he frequently thought of her good qualities.
Cynthia wasn't as young as Deborah, nor could she have any more children. But her inability to conceive was his fault. Even though she was older, she took excellent care of herself and didn't look any lesser than Deborah. Her elegance far surpassed Deborah's.
It was just that, having been married for twenty years, their romantic love had long since faded into a habitual familial bond. That was why his soul had been so easily snatched away by Deborah, leading him to fool around with her.
During the divorce, Cynthia hadn't yelled or caused a scene. This filled Jackson with guilt, and he had voluntarily given her a massive sum of money as compensation. No longer needing to wait on a husband, a stepson, or a daughter-in-law, Cynthia was living her best, most comfortable life.
Because of this, when everyone laid eyes on the former Mrs. Lane again, they all thought she looked radiant. It was as if she had become a completely different person—her aura was more refined, making her look younger and far more stunning.
Ending a tainted marriage was clearly a good thing.
Deborah immediately followed him over.
She had already changed out of her wedding dress and into a traditional formal gown to greet the guests alongside Jackson.
Harold only exchanged pleasantries with Jackson. He barely glanced at Deborah and didn't say a word to her.
With a hint of envy, Deborah praised Isabella. "Isabella and Harold really are a match made in heaven. Being with Harold is so much better than being with Ethan. Look at how much more you smile now. You just radiate good energy."
When Isabella was still married to Ethan, her spirit hadn't been this vibrant.
Back then, all she wanted was to divorce Ethan. Neither of them was sincere, and playing pretend was exhausting. What happiness could there possibly be?
Being with Harold was entirely different. The two were genuinely in love. Harold was gentle and considerate; he understood her and respected her. He made time for her every single day, took her out every weekend, and racked his brain trying to make her happy.
Who you spent your days with made all the difference.
Living with someone whose eyes held only you was like floating in a jar of honey.
