The assistant spotted her right away, nodded politely, and then led her to the door of Jordan’s office.

“Jordan knows you’re here. He’s waiting inside. Go ahead.”

He knocked for her, waited until Jordan called out from inside, then opened the door and motioned for her to enter.

“Jordan, Isabella’s here.”

Jordan didn’t bother looking up as the assistant left the room. He just waved him off, then focused back on his desk.

Isabella walked straight in, not hesitating, and dropped into the chair across from him.

Jordan didn’t even acknowledge her until she'd settled in. Only then did he look up, eyes cool. “I don’t remember inviting you to sit. Don't you have any manners?”

She shrugged, not looking fazed at all. “What difference do manners make with you? You’d find something to complain about anyway.”

Jordan’s lips pressed together, like he wanted to argue back but honestly couldn’t deny it.

“So, why are you here?” he cut right to the point.

Isabella pulled a package from her purse and set it on his desk. “Just thought I’d stop by with a little surprise. No idea who sent it to me, but I feel like it’s more suited for you than for me.”

She didn’t care to draw it out, just tossed the envelope right in front of him.

Jordan eyed the package, saw that it was addressed to Isabella. The sender, though, was anonymous. He frowned. “What is this? Someone mailed this to you. Why are you handing it to me? I doubt it’s a pleasant surprise.”
