After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 1023

He had lost any chance to start over with Isabella. Her feelings for him had already faded, and she didn’t love him anymore.

Even in his dreams, all he felt was regret and sorrow. When he woke up, nothing had changed… He was still drowning in remorse.

In reality, Isabella had asked for a divorce much sooner. They hadn’t even been married a full year before she told him she wanted out and then walked away. In his dream, at least, she was willing to stick around as his wife in name for three years.

But whether it was in his dream or in real life, he and Isabella had never truly been husband and wife. Since their wedding, they’d always slept apart…

“Isabella, I… I’m sorry.” Ethan’s words came out strained. He felt so weak these days that even speaking left him exhausted.

“You should be sorry,” Isabella replied evenly. “But the truth is, we don’t have anything to do with each other anymore. I don’t want to dig up the past. We both need to let go, so we can actually start living again.”

“Do you… hate me?” Ethan looked at her, unsure if he really wanted to hear the answer.

His eyes started to shine with unshed tears. That feeling, the realization that it was too late to turn back, was just crushing. The regret was overwhelming.

When he married her, he’d genuinely thought he was doing her a favor, giving her the title of Mrs. Adams. He believed it was something people could only dream of.

He gave her that title, a comfortable life, a big house, a nice car, and a monthly allowance that was always paid on time.

He thought that as long as she didn’t get greedy and ask for his love, they could go on like that forever.

But Isabella, whether in his dreams or in reality, had never wanted that kind of life. In his dream, she’d tried for three years, fought for his affection, but never won his heart.

Eventually, she gave up, let go, signed the divorce papers, and walked away with nothing. She died alone and miserable.
