Michael felt anxious and chased after Chloe. 

Lucy was disappointed to the core. 

Owen helped her up. “Are you all right?” 

Lucy forced a helpless smile, “It’s all my fault! 

“I acted recklessly while drunk and put Michael in a difficult spot. Owen, you should have stopped me from drinking so much.” 

She broke free from Owen’s embrace and walked away from the rooftop alone. 

Owen clenched and then relaxed his fists. 

He had liked Lucy for many years. Michael, Owen, and Lucy had come back to the country together. 

She had been relying on herself for everything. It hadn’t been 

easy. 

He wanted to take care of her. 

“Lucy, I like you. Give me a chance to take care of you!”

Lucy frowned at his words. 

Owen was simply clueless.

She took a deep breath, and when she looked back at him, her 

annoyance was gone. 

“Owen, you’ve always been my best friend. Thank you for being there when I’m upset. I’m happy to have you as a friend, and I don’t want to lose you. Do you understand how I feel?” 

Owen’s heart sank at her words, but he reassured himself that being her closest friend made him special to her. 

“I came back to focus on my career first, and then think about relationships. I can’t answer your question right now. You won’t blame me, will you?” Lucy said softly. 

Owen nodded, saying, “I understand. I’m not trying to pressure you. I can wait.” 

Lucy gave him a sweet smile. “Thank you, Owen. It’s great to have you!” 

Owen felt a bit light–headed. 

He sent her home, and by now Lucy was completely sober. 

She said goodbye and got out of the car. Only after entering the house did she relax and mutter to herself, “What a pain!”

Tiffany would normally be asleep by now, but tonight she had the living room lights on. 

“Who brought you back? Michael?” she asked. 

Lucy tossed her handbag onto the sofa. “I wish!” 

She had expected Michael to come alone but was frustrated he brought Chloe, ruining her plans. 

“Wasn’t it Michael? Lucy, don’t tell me you’ve changed your target. Who is this guy? How is his family? Can it be compared to the Shawn family?” 

“Mom, why are you doing this? I already said not to mention it. I haven’t changed my target!” 

Lucy rarely argued with her mother. 

Lucy’s attitude annoyed Tiffany. 

“What can I do? You’ve been back for so long, and Michael hasn’t divorced Chloe yet. Can I not worry? Do you want to live in the shadow of Chloe and her mother?” 

Charles was dead long ago, and Wendy had gone insane. Such results delighted her. 

But she still wanted Wendy to see that both she and her daughter did better.
