A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 883

Herbert undeniably had an agenda! But Fairfax... he truly didn't.

Being accused so coldly by Starla left a bitter ache in Fairfax's chest. She was the woman he loved; he couldn't stand the thought of her viewing him as just another manipulator.

"Isn't that the truth?" Starla retorted.

"I have no ulterior motives."

"Herbert said the exact same thing."

Did saying it make it true? Right now, she wouldn't believe a single word that came out of a man's mouth.

Fairfax felt a suffocating tightness in his throat. "Regardless of what you think, Seymour is staying by your side."

He realized that ever since the Brinley Seabrook incident, his little wife had developed a fiercely sharp tongue. Arguing with her was a battle he could never win.

"I don't want him here," Starla said.

"You don't have a choice!" Fairfax's tone hardened, ringing with absolute authority.

Faced with his sudden aggression, Starla was instantly transported back to how he had acted regarding Brinley. "You were this forceful when it came to Brinley, too."

Fairfax went completely silent.

"We barely put that nightmare behind us, and now you're starting something new?" she demanded.

Just hearing Brinley's name gave Fairfax a massive headache. This old score... it seemed they would never get past it. The slightest inconvenience, and she immediately threw it back in his face. He got the sinking feeling she was going to hold it over him for the rest of his life.

But a lifetime was fine by him. As long as he could win her back, she could hold onto that grudge for as long as she wanted.

"Tell your man to get lost," Starla snapped. "My situation has absolutely nothing to do with you."

"No!"
