A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 84

The mention of Harriet made Tanya’s expression darken. That woman was notoriously vicious, her methods both overt and insidious.

“She came to Petal Villa,” Starla said. “She was planning to trap me there and let me die.” Recalling Harriet's arrogance, Starla recounted the entire ordeal for Tanya—the threats, Molly’s desperate calls to a non-responsive Fairfax, everything. It had been pure psychological warfare.

Tanya was practically exploding with rage. “And Fairfax didn’t even come back through all of that?”

“No,” Starla confirmed.

Tanya was dumbfounded. He knew exactly what kind of person Harriet was, yet he left Starla alone at Petal Villa. Was he that naive, or did he genuinely believe that the Yelchin family, Brinley, and Harriet were all bark and no bite?

Tanya took several deep breaths, trying to quell her rising fury. “Then why did Herbert show up at Petal Villa?”

In fact, it had been Herbert who called her and asked her to bring a change of clothes for Starla.

“I don’t know,” Starla admitted. She had no idea why Herbert or Caden had appeared when they did.

Tanya didn't press the issue. Instead, she said angrily, “Let your brother teach that Harriet a good lesson. Wait a minute…” A thought struck her. “So you had your brother’s men beat her up?”
