A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 79

Starla, feeling the blood continue to flow, calmly dialed for an ambulance herself.

Fairfax wasn't picking up. Molly was frantic, but on her fifth attempt, he finally answered.

"What is it?" His voice was ice.

"Mr. Yelchin, you have to come back! Ma'am… she's bleeding, a lot!" As she spoke, Molly glanced at the floor where Starla had been standing. There were dark droplets on the polished wood.

A pause. Then, Fairfax's voice, even colder than before. "Did Starla tell you to call and say that?"

Molly and Starla, who could hear his voice through the phone, were both stunned into silence. "No, sir, you're mistaken, she—"

The line went dead. Fairfax had hung up.

Molly was about to dial again when Starla stopped her. "That's enough. Don't bother. He's on his way to see his precious sister-in-law."

"Ma'am, Mr. Yelchin, he really—"

"Don't," Starla interrupted, her voice sharp with irritation. "Just be quiet. Let me have some peace."

Molly wanted to defend him, to tell her about the soup he had so carefully prepared, but Starla's expression shut her down.
