A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 742

Even his grandfather was terrified of Herbert!

And for good reason. The Yelchin family had been an immovable titan in Marina City, yet they had been brought to their knees practically overnight.

"If you can bring him back..." Herbert began, his tone freezing the air between them.

He didn't finish the sentence. He just shot Caden a chilling side-eye.

Caden instantly understood the unspoken threat.

He had to drag Fairfax back. If he didn't, and Herbert woke up in a bad mood one day, the Larson Group might just become his next target.

Friendship really was a fragile thing. First, Fairfax threw him under the bus, and now Herbert was holding a knife to his throat.

Caden’s mouth twitched. "Wait, man, are you... are you serious?"

Starla also caught the deadly implication in Herbert's voice.

Hearing Caden stutter, she instinctively glanced at the man sitting beside her. His sharp features were locked in a stone-cold expression. He wasn't joking.

"Alright! I'll find him," Caden blurted out. "I'll send my people out right now."

God help him.

He had been the one to drive the guy out of town, and now he was the one expected to hunt him down. But Fairfax had completely vanished the moment he stepped foot in Hansville City. Finding him was going to be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Caden felt like the entire Larson empire was going to crumble in his hands.

"Look, how about this, I... alright, fine, I'm on it!"

Caden had wanted to negotiate, but one look into Herbert’s dead, emotionless eyes made him swallow his words. It was crystal clear: if he didn't bring Fairfax back, there would be no mercy.

...

Starla was silent for a moment. She had definitely heard the very real danger in his tone. Even her own heart had skipped a beat when he delivered that ultimatum.

"Eat a little more?"

Herbert glanced at the half-empty bowl of soup in front of her. Caden had interrupted them before she could take more than a few bites.

Starla nodded. "Yeah, I will."

Her health had improved significantly lately, and her appetite was finally returning. She had grown fond of the local cuisine, and moving to Yoran Country meant she'd have to adjust all over again.

"If I go with you to Yoran Country, won't it affect your operations here?"

Although Garret had mentioned that Herbert was shifting the bulk of his assets overseas, Marina City was his foundation. It was the heart of the Farley Group.

Not to mention the older generations of his family...
