A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 733

Yardley Hoggart received the news as well. He called Starla immediately. "No divorce?"

"He ran," Starla grumbled into the phone.

The more she thought about it, the more idiotic she felt. She truly hadn't anticipated him pulling a stunt like this, especially with Marina City locked down so tightly. What they hadn't expected was Caden Larson being gullible enough to get tricked into smuggling him out. If Caden hadn't interfered, Fairfax wouldn't have stood a chance of escaping.

It was an absolute mess.

"Come back to Yoran Country. Let me handle the rest," Yardley instructed. Clearly, he was losing patience with the situation. He had been indulging her lately, letting her run wild at The Yelchin Estate and waste her time. But now, he wasn't comfortable leaving her to deal with this alone. When it came to a man like Fairfax, a clean, immediate break was the only acceptable outcome.

"Okay. I'll fly back tomorrow," Starla agreed. Everything she needed to do in Marina City was finished anyway. It was time to go home.

"Are you upset?"

"Yeah," she admitted, her voice muffled.

Being played like that by her soon-to-be ex-husband left a bitter taste in her mouth.

Then there was the truth about their marriage.

Thinking back to all the sweet, convincing things he had said to get her to say yes... She had recently told Brinley Seabrook that the woman had turned her own life into a joke. But wasn't Starla just as foolish?

She had saved Herbert but never bothered to remember his face. When Fairfax spun his web of lies about that fateful encounter, she hadn't pressed for details. How Fairfax had learned about her history with Herbert was still a mystery, but the fact remained: that fabricated story was the main reason she had accepted his proposal.

"There's no use dwelling on it. Just come home first," Yardley reassured her. In her most vulnerable moments, the comforting presence of her family was the only thing that brought her peace.

"I will."

"But you two aren't even legally separated yet. How is it finished?"

"He's not even in the city anymore. My brother just said I don't need to worry about it, he's taking over."

"Must be nice having a brother like that!" Tanya sighed. Still, a marriage and a divorce were massive life events. Was it really okay for the person actually involved to just step away?

For anyone else, probably not. But for the Hoggart Group, this was likely a minor administrative hiccup.

"If you move back to Yoran Country, does that mean we won't see each other for a long time?" Tanya suddenly threw her arms around Starla. They had known each other for years, always living in the same city, just a quick drive away. The idea of suddenly being in different countries was hard to swallow.

Starla pinched her friend's arm affectionately. "Whenever you miss me, just let me know. I'll send a private jet to pick you up."
