Fairfax wanted to scream, “Yes, I am!”
If he had any solution at all, he wouldn't be in this humiliating mess. He had seriously underestimated that woman.
“Just wait a little longer. I’m handling it,” he said, his voice strained.
Though he had a reputation for being ruthless in the business world, he couldn’t bring himself to be cruel to his own grandmother, especially not when she was on the verge of being thrown onto the streets.
He hung up on Annika and immediately dialed Caden. Despite Caden’s family pulling out of several joint ventures with the Yelchin Group recently, this was a separate issue.
Half an hour later, Caden met Fairfax in his office at the Yelchin Group headquarters.
Fairfax had suggested a café downstairs, but as it turned out, he was barred from every commercial establishment in the city.
It had only been a few days, but Caden noticed that Fairfax had visibly lost a lot of weight. Starla was clearly putting him through hell.
Fairfax took a long drag from his cigarette, remaining silent.
“Still not divorced yet?” Caden finally asked.
“She agreed to it.”
“That’s great news!” Caden said, relieved. If this dragged on any longer, the entire Yelchin family would be ground to dust. The Starla of today was a force to be reckoned with, especially with Yardley backing her.
The thought of Starla and Yardley made Caden feel like he was sitting on pins and needles. Although Starla had said they could still be friends when they last spoke, he knew how precarious that friendship was now. If he dared to keep helping Fairfax, his own Larson Group could be next. That woman was terrifying!
