A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 533

Darleen felt like she was going to suffocate. Every time she replayed Starla’s words in her head, the air grew thinner.

"Mom, what's wrong? Why are you so pale? What did she say to you?" Xenia asked, rushing to her side.

Darleen had gone to confront Starla, furious about her demand for everything they owned. Why had she returned looking like a ghost?

Xenia was seething herself. Starla even wanted her money—she’d said all the money in the Yelchin family, everyone’s money. How could she be so greedy? Even in a divorce, marital assets are divided. Starla wasn't just ignoring that; she was going after the personal assets of every other family member. Xenia had never seen such avarice.

Darleen’s hands were ice-cold as she trembled, looking at her daughter. "Am I the root of this family's destruction?"

Her eyes welled up with tears as she spoke.

Xenia stared at her, stunned. "What?"

"Is the Yelchin family in this state because of me? Is it all my fault?"

"No! Is that what Starla told you?" Xenia exclaimed. "That bitch! What nonsense is she spewing now? It’s her own depravity, and she’s just trying to pin the blame on someone else."

Seeing the guilt consuming her mother, Xenia’s heart ached.

But a tear slipped down Darleen’s cheek. "Maybe it is because of me. If it weren't for me, her relationship with Fairfax would still be strong. And if they were happy, none of this would be happening."

After hearing the conviction in Starla's voice, Darleen was starting to believe it herself.
